A lad nairied Frederick Vivian, aged seven, was, drowned in Freeman’s Bay, Auckland, on Monday night. The boy waa playing with other children, and must have fallen over the embankment, as the dead body was found shortly afterwards. Wi Pere, Sydney Taiwbanga, J. Warbrick, and J. Carroll were yesterday nominated at Napier for the Bast Maori District. Mr J. Petrie, the Mayor of Greymouth, and four others wore thrown out of a buggy on Tuesday night. One of the party, Mr West, was severely shaken, but the remainder escaped unhurt. At Masterton yesterday an explosion of gas occurred at the residence of Wm, VToKeMie, printer, which burst out the walls of the sitting-room, closed the doqr so that the family were temporarily imprisoned,, singed the hair of the inmates, and scorched the walls and furniture. The fire was put out.
