FOOTBALL.

i A friendly game of football took place in the Geraldine Park on last Saturday I between teams chosen from the Wia- , Chester and Geraldine Wanderers’ Poot- [ ball Clubs. The afternoon was beautij fully fine for football, and the ground . was in splendid order; A number of 5 spectators Were present to witness the ' game, including a s.mflf sprinkling of f ladies. The visitors arrived by express r shortly before three. Mr E, Smith x acted as their umpire, with Mr G. Smith 3 ' as captain, while Mr E. H, Pearpoint , umpired for the home team, who were , captained by Mr R. Mabin. Geraldine j having won the choice of goals and - the t kick-off decided to defend the ealtern 5 goal, and about J. 20 the bail was kicked , off by Browne and was smartly returned 5 by Clinch. The Winchester forwards' proved altogether too strong for the Geraldine men and soon brought the ball well down in the latter’s 25j; Stewart, getting hold of it, brought « > c'ose on the goal line, Here it fell into c the hands of Browne, who, by a good I punt, sent it back to about midway. ■ Following up his kick be again secured ■ the leather and made a capital , brought to grass by the Winchester i backs. From the kick out the ball was taken the Winchester 25, and back again to ' the centre, where Kalaugber getting hold of it carried it well down the field. Prom this it was again returned to the centre, where the play was when time was called. After a short spell the ball was set in motion by Winchester. The Geraldine forwards were now playing a determined game, making rush after rush, in which Mabin, Slack, and Coltman were oonspicuoup. Browne soon had it down to The Winchester 25, and passing it to Ohiverson the latter looked like scoring. It came back, however, and Clinch again getting hold of it went through and carried it ovetvlhe line, .but being seized by Kalaugber i'wbile .crossing he was dragged back by/ the ljUwr before he conld'todch it down. d|ne were then, again -forced down. Clinch again looked like scoring, but was collared by Browne, and Stewart, with one of his powerful rushes, very nearly managed to obtain a try. The ball was quickly transferred to luto Winchester quarters despite the effort? of Harte and the Stewarts’, who playing a sp’endid game. ,Millard, who was kicking capitally, Than got a pot, but the space at his command was very limited. game tbenee travelled up and down the field till time was called, when it was well in the centre of the ground. Winchester thus won by 6 points (2 goals) |o nil. For the winners Messrs Harte, Stewart, Sballard, Austin, and Smith played a capital game. For Geraldine Messrs Mabin, Slack, Ooltman, Browne, and Kaiaugher, were especially conspicuous, The customary cheers were given at the conclusion of the game, which was played in a most friendly spirit throughout. Winchester played with eleven and Geraldine with fourteen.

A match took place in the Geraldine Park yesterday afternoon between teams chosen from the Geraldine and Pleasant Valley schools. Tbe former were captainei by J. Colbert and the latter by Lysaght. The visitors were by far the strongest team, and won the match without much trouble by 11 points to nil
