THE MAGDALGN ASTLUSI. A VOIOI FBOM MOUNT MAGDALA AN APPEAL. "N appealing for subscriptions for the FIRST MAGDALEN ASYLUM in New Zealand, the Sisters of the "Good Shepherd " desire to express, through me, their sinoere gratitude to the inhabitants of thii City and the Colony generally for the kind co-operation afforded them since they oommenced the great work to which their lives are devoted in their temporary residence, Manchester Street North. Hourly we meet with a poor Magdalen, tired of a misspent life, seeking a shelter, and finding no security against the biting tblaits of renewed temptation, turns away with the weight of the world's accusation, with the world's condemnation, and beoomes the viotim of an unholy impulse, which oannot be recalled without a sigh nay, without a tear, Kindly, therefore, bear in mind—1. A mnoti dnnirnhlfl site has hfifin acnuired for the Magdalen near Ohriitchurch. 2. His Eminence Cardinal Moran laid the foundation-stone at "Mount Magdala" on the 18th February of last year, in the presence of 5000 people, and the first portion of the Asylum is nearly completed. 3. The advantages of the Magdalen will be extended to all New Zealand and else* where. i, The waifs and the wanderers who are rescued from the paths of misery and sin are not asked to what creed they belong. It is sufficient that they need suooour. 8, The inmates of "Mount Magdala" and the Good Shepherd Nuns plaoed over them will remember always, with lively gratitude, the bene!aotors of the institu. tton. 0. Subscriptions may be paid either in part or in full, according to the convenience of subscribers. 7. If, therefore, it were ever true to say "that he gives twice who gives quickly," it is particularly so on the present oooaiion, in order that soon we may see another Homo of the Good Shepherd added to the 160 Homes soattered over the globe in whioh more than 4000 RuH&inr/8B« [ bestow their devoted care on 20,000 I Chikdrkit and yonng girls, while a judicious ohannel will be opened for the outlay of the Fuvss entrusted to the Institution. 8. The Sisters of the Good Shepherd will be grateful to all those who enoourage their friends to subscribe to the funds of the Magdalen Asylum. The favor of an early response will enable me to bring to a speedy conclusion an institution from which oircles of good muat emanate to exercise a salutory iufluenoe on the future of the Colony. BUtiSORIRTIONS will also be received by Mebbbs A. J. WHITE and H. H. LOUGH NAN ; and the EeT. Mother Prioress Convent of the Good Shepherd, Manchester dtreet North, Cheques and P.O. Orders to be made payable to me, L. M. GINATY, S.M., Mis.JEect., Managing Trustee. Christohuroh, May, 1887.
