Robp, J. Dow, D. Mahoriey, and M. Taylor. This meeting took.place at tho Raukapnka Fjstate, by tho permission of Mr W. Postlethwaite, on Thurtdoy last. The early part: of the day was-bright: nnd warm, making coursing most enjoyable. 4.bout two o'clock, however, a bitterly cold sou'-wester sprang up, accompanied by a shower, which made the day anything but pleasant. A considerable number of' coursing men aud'lovers of tht iport arrived from Timaru by the first train, and that number being augmented by the local sportsmen and their dogs, besides speccators, there was a very fair number of persons present. Hares were, during tho early part of the day, found to be very plentiful, and with plenty of "go" in them, making soma of the courses capital trials. Hares being so; numerous allowed of the Raukapuka Puppy Stakei being run; off the game, day,: insteadvof having to be finished the following.day, as was expected. The officers worked woll. The Judge's decisions invariably met the approval of those present, while Mr Connolly deserves a word of special praiee, the manner in which he performed the duties of slipper being the admiration ; of everyone. A start was made shortly after .the arrival of the passengers from Timara, the first dog being given to Mr Connolly at half-pait ten. Fown Hope and Bright Star were first into the slips, the former being much fancied for the Champion Stakes. A hare was soon put up in the corner of the paddock, where, after a vary short and fluky eouree, during which Fown Hope made the mosi points, it got away through the plantation and across the road. Ringmaster and Black Maid next tried conclusions, the former knocking; up the most points. Miss Taylor and Slice o' Lncfc '*cre sent away to a capital hare, which allowed of a good, trial, Mr Mills'bitch b«ing much admired for the very clever way in which she worked the hare, and won. The next course was a grueller, a grand-racing hare giving Concrete and Airent a long sp ; n down the paddock, fina'ly getting into the river-bed, whete it was killed, the flag go'ng np for Concrete. Tearing Young Follow and Tarifa had a good trial with a strong lure, Tarifa scoring well till the hare took through a plantation, when Mr Zander's dog got in and scored the victory. The next course fell to Tit Bit, after some good work- with Jack. In the second rouud Fown Hope and Ringm >r»ter had a good trial to a strong li'iro, the former working very cleverly, and winning his course. Miss Taylor and Concrete had a rather very long coiksp, but Concrete had suoh a grueling in his fir-t course that it told on, him. now, and Miss Taylor won ea«ily. ,Tit.B.il wdi eaui'y from Tearing Young Fellow. For tho third round c capital race took plane between Fown Hope and.Misi Taylor, both dogs being very .clever, the tho former eventually winning. Tic Bit ran a bye with Agent. It was decided by Mr Mahoney and MrTaylor (who represented Mr Judgr) to divide tho stakes, as both dogs were well pumped. ■"" ' ?■ i
