RANGITATA AND GLADSTONE ELECTION.

TO THR HEITOR, Sin, —I received last night a request to come forward -for-feira -Saagitata District at the coming election. I am obliged to say, as I hare so often said before, both for the Gladstone and Eangitata Districts, that I hare no intention at present to leave my business so long as we have a gentleman to represent us like Mr Eolleston. Though we may not agree with him in everything, yet, it would be a great misjortune for the Colony not to have him in the House. If I had been coming forward it would have been as a strong supporter ,of Sir Julius Vogel's policy. I consider Sir Julius is out-and out the i most able man we have in New Zealand, His policy is thoroughly sound, and will in time bring us out of our present difficulties. I was always a Freetrader in England, but here, in a new country, we must foster industries if we wish to keep labor in our country. If Sir Julius dies to-morrow he leaves behind him many a lasting monument, viz. His Public Works Policy The East and West Coast Eailway The Fisheries Bill Loans to Local Bodies

The Encouragement and Preservation of Forests, And many other far-seeing ideas which I can't now enumerate. My only wish is that we shall see a s'rong Protective House meet in. a few weeks in "Wellington which will show the country that the G-overnnient were quite right in appealing to the country on their Protective Policy. — I am, etc., C. G- Tbim, Orari Gf-orge, Woodbury, August 10th, 1887.
