No trace has yet beea found of the schooner Columbia, 31 days out from Mercury Bay to Napier, William Dunbar Birrell, charged at Blenheim with embezzling £640 from the Commercial Bank, Melons', New South Wale*, has been forwarded to Sydney. The Otago Educational Institute referred to a committee the question of considering in what manner economies could be effected. The opinion generally expressed was that teachers must submit to a reduction in salaries the same as other branches of the service. The working printers in Napier have decided to resist the attempt of Mr Joseph Iveso to cut down the wages in his office in that town. Resolutions strongly condemning his action were passed at a meeting of the printers.
