A fire occurred at the Royal Hotel, HamiltoD, Auck'and, and was only suppressed after some difficulty, little damage, however, being done. A mau named John Philips slated to tie 'andlord that he had set the building on fire so as to provide work. Philips .was arresced on Wednesday afternoon. At the City Hotel, Auckland, on Wednesday night, R.M.Munro beat J. J. Harper for the championship of New Zealand in Highland dancing. Harper won the swsrd dance by two points, but Munro was victorious in the Highland reel and Highland fling. The New Zealand Shipping Company received a telegram, dated London, 30th July, stating that the Aorangi left Plymouth that day with mails and passengers. The Opawa sailed from London for Wellington. A Scandinavian named Vtyers, v.hile out shooting at Greytown on Wednesday, met with an accident owing to his gun exploding. It shattered his wrist and arm, which had to be amputated.
