HILTON PUBLIC SCHOOL.
The monthly meeting o£ the Committee of this school was held in the schoolroom on Friday evening last. Present —Messrs Beatie, Hide, Kooke, Toomey, Cochrane, and Skinner (Chairman). The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed.
The Master's report was read, which showed the average attendance to be increasing, the number on the roll being 90. Four applications were read for the post of pupil teacher, when it was decided, on the proposition of Mr Cochrane, seconded by Mr Eooke, that the Chairman should write to the Board of Education drawing their attention to the Committee's last letter re asking permission to nominate a pupil teacher. The Chairman stated he had received a cheque of £1 from the Q-eraldine Eoad Board for the use of the school for the Road Board election. At a former meeting of the Committee Messrs Beatie, Cochrane, and Skinner were appointed a Building Committee to look after the re-roofing of the ochool. They handed in their report, and certified to the work having been done in a satisfactory manner. The labor was done by Mr E. Proutina;, of G-eraldine. As the Board of Education only pays twothirds of the cost the Committee intend to have a tea and concert on Friday next to raise funds to pay the balance.
Accounts amounting to JB4 4s were passed for payment and the meeting closed.
