GRAND NATIONAL STEEPLECHASE MEETING.' A CHRISTOHtTECH, July 28. The twelfth meeting of the Grand National Steeplechase Club was held at R'ccarton to-day. Tlie weather was perfect, and the attendance was unusually large. £4OOO was put through the totaliaatora. The following are th* results:— New Zealand Grand National Handicap Cop, of 400 bovs ;about 4 miles. Mr R. Rutherford’s Faugh-n-Ballagh list 131bs (T. Lyford) 1 Mr Rutherford’s Bredonhill, 9st 121bs (C. O'Cmnor) 2 Mr G. H. Rhodes’ Ban H., lOat 111 b (K. Dunn) & Orient Cl2st 11b), Moody (12st 71b), ManErahone (Hat lllb), Chance (list 51b), King Arthur (list 31ba), Linwood (10st: 9!b), Mammoc (10st 71b), Sultan (lOat 21b),, > Romeo (10st), and Master Guy (9st 51b) also started. After one break away the field was despatched to a straggling start, the colors of Faugh-i-ballagh, Mammoc, Romeo, Linwood, and Chance bein' conspicuous in the van. Master Guy was the last to move. All got safely over the first obstacle with the exception of Sultan, who baulked persistently, and took no further part in the race. At the double Fangh-a-ballagh ws leading Romeo by Haifa doz-n lengths, and Bm 11., Linwood, and Chance were leading the ruck, of which the last pair were King Arthur and Master Guy. Faugb-a-ballagh increased his advantage as they turned into the straight,-and was fully thirty langlhs in front of Romeo as they s’innped the donb’e in front ef the stand. No material change took place as they ran round the bend at Cutts’, but opposite Ford’s Moody improved (he pace and ran into third place. At the first fence of the double Mangabone fell, and alf the next obstac'e Chance, who was holding a position a.nd going well, also came down'. Faugh- i-ballagh was heiding by fuMy a hundred yards as they passed the stand the second tim<*, Moody and Romao coming next, and Ben H., Orient, Bredoi.bM, Linwood, and KingAithur following in Hie order »amed. Orient fell at Cutt» f and Romeo followed his example at wall approaching Ford s.
