The Ghilzais were defeated the first day, but on the second were victorious, and at last accounts were pursuing the Ameer’s troops, Wisconsin was swept out of existence on June 26ih by a tremendous conflagration kindled by a spark from a locomotive falling in a timber yard. Two thousand people were rendered homeless and property lost to the extent of 1,000,000 dollars. -

Irrepressible conflicts between the white and black races broke out at Louisiana on June 27th, and the result was that six negroes were killed and seven white men dangerously wounded. The cause of the fight was an attempt to arrest a negro for criminally assaulting a white gi:i 18 years old. The French silk weavers imported.under contract to work for a Jersey City Silk Manufacturer, were on June 27th ordered to be sent back to France from Nev» York, on the ground that their engagement was in contravention of an Act of Congress in regard to contract labor. The Rev. Mr Parker, of London, having declined to till the vacant Plymouth Church pulph, the place has been accepted by the Rev. Charles Stowe, a nephew of the late Rev. Henry Ward Beecher.

Ori the night of the 21st June, in Cork, a mob attacked the office of the Constitution, a Conservative paper, and smashed in all the windows of the building. The police charged the rioters and dispersed them after some heavy fighting. Fifty persons are reported to be injured. O’Brien was welcomed in Dublin, on June 19fch on his return from his Canadian mission, by the greatest ovation witnessed in that city for years.

In consequence of the Mayor of Cork hoisting a black flag on the occasion of the Queen’s Jubilee celebration, and because of his having shown favour to Nationalists, Mr Plunkett, the Divisional Magistrate, has superseded him, and ordered that only the resident paid magistrate shall try prisoners.
