FOOTBALL.
GERALDINE E.C. T. TEMUKA F.O. A match was played between the above teams at Geraldine on Saturday, the 28rd inst. The following are the teams : —Geraldine : Full-back, E. Millard ; three-quarter-backs, A. Stewart, Kaiaughor, and Harding; half-backs, G. Bethune and W. Stewart; forwards, Hiskens, Mabm (captain), Coltman, Brown, and D. Stewart. Temuka ; Fullback, J. Ve(vin (captain) ; three-quarter-backs, LeCren and J. Clinch ; half-backs, Browne and Hope ; forwards, Ganion, Cross, Carr, Simpson, McCallum, Moiley, Cleghorne. Temuka won the toss and agreed to take the western end, and Geraldine kicked off. The ball was soon out of bounds. On being thrown in a series of scrimmages ensued, when Clinch got hold of it and carried it well into Geraldine’s quorters, and Browne secured the leather and obtained a try, which was converted into » goal. After the kick off the ball wap carried on to the Geraldine goal line, where, after several scrimmages, Clinch got over the line. The try was taken by Browne, who failed to score. After the kick out Geraldine was forced down twice in succession. Mabin by a good run then carried it well into Temuka’s quarters, when Kalaugher made a splendid, run, and was grassed Just oa the line. Temuka was . thereby forced down, and on being kicked out Clinch, by a beautiful run, carried it down the ground, but was stopped by Kalaugher. After Scrimmaging in the centre of the ground Browne carried it across the line and obtained a try, which ho converted into a goal. Shortly after tbu time was called. After changing ends Temnka kicked off, and the ball was carried to the Geraldine quarters, where Clinch, through a misjudged kick by Geraldine, obtained another try, which Browne contorted into a goal. On being kicked out the ball was kept in the middle of the ground for some time, until Mabin by an excellent bit of dribbling carried it into Temuka 25yds flag, but the Geraldine forwards were too weak to keep it there, and the leather was carried back, wben they were breed down. Tbe ball after this travelled from one end to the other till Browne tried to pot a goal, and Geraldine was ’ forced down twice in succession. Shortly *fter this Browne got beHhd tbe Geraldine goal line again. Yuivin look the try, but failed to score. During the remainder of the game Temnka made many determined efforts to get over the lino, but all to no avail. Temuka thus wen tbe match by Jl] points to ail, For
Temuka Browne, Clinch, and LeCrec played an excellent game, while for Geraldine Mabin, Kalangher, and Stewart showed up well, Messrs F. Smith and J. Blyth acted as umpires for Geraldine and Temuka respectively, and Mr Flint acted as referee. The usual cheers were given tor their respective teams, their captains, the umpires, and the referee.
