CHRISTCHURCH CORN EXCHANGE

The Corn Exchange reports for (ho week ending. Friday evening, the 22nd inst. :

We have but few grain transactions to note for the past week. Shipping orders are not plentiful, and sellers would find some difficulty in quitting at anything beyond the quotations given below, The weather during the past few days will considerably binder farm work, and it is anticipated that a good deal oi the sown wheats on the low-lying land will have to be re-sown. Tuscan seed has had a few enquiries during the week. Wheat Sales in limited sized parcels have taken place at 3s 7d to 3s for pearl and tuscan, and 8s 6d for hunters, all prime milling. Chicken wheat has been easier at 3s to 3s 4d.

Oats are dull, except for prime milling, which are hard to obtain at Is lid to 2s. Short feed vary from Is 9d to Is XOd, and the long descriptions are without enquiry at Is 7d to Is Bd.

Barley malting lines, we have little business to note, inferior lines are being taken shipment at 3s 3d to 3s 6d, and feed is quiet at 2s 3d, Beans have a very good enquiry at 3s 2d to 3s 4d, and peas are exceptionally quiet at 3s to 3s 3d for prnssiau blues and feeding sorts are hard to sell at over 2b 9d.

Grass Seed Ryegrass is offering plentifully, but buyers are holding aloof, expecting to buy cheaper. Machine dressed is quoted at 3s 6d, and farmers lines vary according to sample at from 2s to 2s 9d, cocksfoot firm at 4d to 4|d.

Potatoes But little business is doing. Sydney market continues glutted, and local and interprovincial orders are very limited ; 22s 6d is tbe best price at country stations. Dairy Produce Butter bas not advanced beyond 8d for extra prime and tbe market is fairly well stocked. Cheese is a drug at 4d ; less money would be accepted by holders for mixed sizes.

CHRISTCHURCH STOCK MARKETS,

At the Addington yards on Wednesday with the exception of store and dairy cattle, there was quite an average entry of stock, Pat cattle—'J ho entry of fat cattle was composed of fat principally prime quality beef. The demand came from a small attendance of the trade, oni was very weak, and late values wore hardly maintained, ' and a good portion of theectry was turned out or sold. Steers sold at from £5 to £6 5s and heifers from £3 12s 6d to £6 15s, being from 15s to 18s per 1001 b, according to quality. There was no business dr ne in either store cattle or dairy stock. Pat sheep Notwithstanding the rough weather, there was a good entry of fat sheep, a great proportion being of the primes! quality. The demand came from both local and export buyers, and all lots wore well competed for, and late values were more than maintained. The best of the crossbred wethers sold at from 12s 6d to 16s, wethers and maiden ewes (mixed) at from 11s to 15s, light weights at from 8s to 11b, crossbred ewes (mixed ages) from 7s 6d to 10s 3d, merino wethers at, 7s, being up to 2-|d per it for the primes! mutton, down to 3|-d for inferior. Store sheep : A fair nurnuer were yarded, chiefly good young crossbreds, The demand was keen for every line, and nil lots sold at quite late values. Crossbred wethers in forward condition sold at from 8s 9d to 10s 2d, and a line, of twn-tooths, mixed crossbred, sold at 6s 3d; and a line of old ewes at 4t Id per head. Pigs A fairly good entry, chiefly baconers. The demand showed but little falling off. all set ing » ! late values, viz., from 2|d to ;>|v, according es weights were snird’e.
