INTERPROVINCIAL NEWS.

At Christchurch yesterday, John Albert Searle, John Ross, and Leonard Sellars, three boys who were committed for trial last week on charges of housebreaking and arson at F. Qabites’ shop, were committed on four charges of housebreaking at Harris and Sons, merchants, Simpson’s, tobacconist, Smythe’s auction room, and Green’s bacon-curing factory. They helped themselves to large quantities of tobacco and cigars, three pairs of boots, a revolver and money. Searlo confessed the whole to Chief-Detective Neil. A man named Neal died at Napior on Sunday from lockjaw, caused by catting his foot with a broken bottle a fortnight previously. Shocks of earthquake were felt at Ashburton on Friday evening, and at Napier on Monday morning. Doubts are cast upon the accuracy of the girl’s statement relative to the daylight robbery at Captain Russell’s house at Wellington on Friday. She gives such conflicting statements that the police doubt whether there was any attempt at robbery at ail.

In 1882 Detective Chrystall boarded the barque Peru as she was leaving Wellington harbor with a warrant for the arrest of the cook. Captain Orr refused to give up the mao, and threatened to carry the detective to sea. Finally he put him ashore at the heads in a dingy. On Monday morning Detective Chrysiall arrested the Captain, whose vessel re-entered the port on Saturday, on two charges of rescuing and harboring. The hearing of the case was postponed till Wednesday, bail being allowed in two sureties of £SO each.

The body of a man was found in Wellington Harbor on Monday. It is supposed to be that of the fisherman missing last week.
