THE MAGDALEN ASYLUM. A VOICE FROM MOUNT MAGDALA AN APPEAL. "N appealing for subscriptions for the FIRST MAGDALEN ASYLUM in New Zealand, the Sisters of the "Good Shepherd " desire to express, through me, their sinoere gratitude to the inhabitants of this Oity and tho Colony generally for the kind co-o*peration Rffjrded them sinoe they oommenced the great work to whioh their live* are devoted in their temporary residence, Manchester Street North. Hourly we meet with a psor Magdalen, tired of & misspent life, seeking a ihelter, and finding no security against the biting tblasts of renewed temptation, turns away with the weight of the world'* accusation, with the world's oondemnaMon, and becomes the victim of an unholy impulse, whioh cannot be reoalled without a sigh nay, without a tear, Kindly, therefore, bear in mind—1. A most de»irable eite has been acquired for tho Magdalen ne&r Christohurcn. 2. His 'Eminence Cardinal Moran laid the foundation-stone at "Mount Migdala" on the 18th February of last year, in the presence of 5000 people, and tho first portion of the Asylum is nenrly completed. 3. Tho advantages of tho Magdalen will be extended to all New Zealand and elsewhere. waifs and the wanderers who are rescued from the paths of misery and sin are not asked to what creed tbey belong. It is sufficient that they need succour. 5. The inmates of "Mount Mugdala"aDd the Good Shepherd Nuus placed over them will remember always, with lively gratitude, the benefactors of tho institution. 6. Subscriptions may be paid either in part or in full, according to the convenience of subscribers. I 7. If, therefore, it were evor true to s&y "that he gives twice who give* quickly," it is particularly so on the present oooaiion, in order that soon we may see another House of the Good Shepherd addod to the 150 Homes scattered over the globe in whioh more than 4000 Rbgigibtjbes bestow their devoted care on 20,000 Children and young girls, while a judicious channel will be opened for the outlay of the Funds entrusted to the Institution. 8. The Sisters of the Good Shepherd will ' be grateful to all those who encourage their friends to subscribe to the fundi of the Magdalen isylum. The faver of an early response will enable me to bring to a speedy couolmion an inslitution from which circles of good must emanate \o exercise a saintly influence on the future of the Colony.
