Major Atkinson addressed his con' stituents at flawera on local matters or Thursday night, justifying bis action in reference to the New Plymouth harbor, the Stratford Railway, and other subjects of local interest. irj wae lively but orderly. About onefourth of those present voted. Last night Major Atkinson spoke on colonial matters. Mr Daigaville addressed a crowded meeting of the electors of Marsden at Waipu on Wednesday night. He favored the Premiership of Sir Robt. Stout, tho discontinuance of borrowing, retrenchment, and maintenance in its integrity of the common school system. He said that a new party, with Sir Robt. Stout as a leader, would take the reins of power in the next Parliament. He re ceiyed a vote of confidence. Hr Tele addressed the electors of Newton (Auckland) on Thursday reviewing the work of the session. He defended the Government from the charge of reckless expenditure, stating that they had made extensive reductions in all departmencs. Ho stated that the cry for retrenchment was a party cry, and he opposed cutting down the education vote. He announced that he would stand for Newton, and received a vote of thanks and confidence as a person fitted to represent any constituency.
