SOUTH AUSTRALIAN POLITICS.
Adelaide, July 6. In th* House of Assembly last night Mr Pinjfor t, Premier, m--.de a statement regarding the inten ions of the Government, Ha stated the actual deficit in the revenue amounted to £1,112,000, which it was proposed to repay by Treasury tills, extending over ten years, bearing interest at per cent., the hi l s to be met bv sales of land, whereof there are 224,000,000 acres unalienated. It was intended to encourage settlement on the land, and discourage the acquisition of large blocks by syndicates. The salaries of the Governor and of the Judges are not to be reduced, but the Magistrates and others whose salaries exceed £l5O would be reduced by from 10 to 20 per cent. It was proposed to place £20,000 on the Estimates for the payment of members. the revenue for the current year was estimated at £2,168,000, and the expenditure at £2,205,000. It is intended to readjust the land and income taxes, and to alter the Customs duties for protective purposes, though the duty on certaia necessaries of life would be reduced. The statement was well received by the House.
