Melbourne, July L The parcels post throughout Victoria commenced to-day. July 3. The death is announced of Captain Mandeville. Sydney, July 1. The Centennial Celebration Bill, embodying the Governmeni’s proposal for the formation of Lachlan Park and the erection of a State Palace therein, was read a second time in the Assembly last night. July 2. A case of smallpox has occurred here. The sufferer is a man named Alexander, who was one of the crew of (he Glaslyn, wrecked in the China Seas. He lately arrived from Hong Kong in the steamship Port Victor, which carried B"veral passengers and brought a dean bill of health. lie spent one night at the Sailors’ Horae here, and the inmates are now all nnquarantiiif'd. Alexan ler has been placed aboard the quarantine hulk. It is known that six of the Port Victor’s passengers went to New Zealand by the Wnkatipu on her last voyage from this port. Jn y 5. The b.s. Port. Victor, which brought the man Alexander, who is suffering from smallpox, has been intercepted and quarantined. No fresh ot smallpox have beea reported. The assistant-manag, r of the Electric Telegraph Department is missing. It is supposed that he has committed suicide. Arrived—Hnuroto.
