ASHBURTON MARKETS,
Mr E. G. Stavoly (for New Zeaianl Loan and Mercantile Agency Company, Limitedj reports on Ashburton sale, 28th inst,; —Owing to the inclement weather, the entry was small, and the attendance below the average. Cattle were dull and difficult to quit. Sheep were in fair demand, young [crossbreds being well competed for. Prices ruled as follows:—Eat cows, £5 17s 6d to £6 2s 6d; forward steers, £4 10s to £5 2s 6d; fat mixed crossbreds 8s ; merino ewes in lamb, 3s 8d ; dry crossbred ewes, 6s 8d ; medium crossbred lambs, 5s 6d; mixed sexes crossbreds, 4s 6d; two-tooth halfbred wethers, 6s lOd. AUSTRALIAN MARKETS. Melbourne, Jane 28. The Melbourne Manager of the National Mortgage and Agency Company, Limited, of New Zealand reports on the local grain market as follows ; The shipping wheat market is depressed, at 8s lOd to Ss lid. Malting barley is steady, but not in active demand, at 4s 9d to 5s 6d. New Zealand oats— Feeding, rather more enquiry, 2s 9d to 3s; milling', less depressed, but not much doing, 2s lOd to 2s lid ; under bond, quiet, 2s to 2s 2d.
