WINCHES lER. The monthly meeting of the Winchester School Committee Wf»s held in the school* room on Monday evening last. Present —Messrs A. Ensor/Chairman), Q. Smith, Bishop, North am, and Philp. MINUTES. The minutes of the previous meeting ffir read and approved. CORRESPONDENCE. Correspondence was read Prom the Education Board, granting the sum of £2 to purchase and set a new grate in the Master’s room.—The letter was considered satisfactory. From the Minister of Education, in answer to a telegram from the Chairman re new site for school, referring the matter to the Education Board, Timaru, after which further application was to be made to the Minister at Wellington.—lt was resolved that the Chairman interview the Board on the matter, at the same time ranking the formal application as requested by the Minister of Education. From Mr A. Baillie, resigning hi-- seat on the Committee.—On the motion of Mr Bishop, seconded by Mr Philp, Mr 11. Smith was unanimously elected to fill the vacancy. master's report. Toe Muster’s report showed that during the past quarter 12 scholars had been ad. mitted while only two had left, and thatthe average attendance had increased from 55 to 60. The number on the roll was— Boys 48, girls 34, total 82. The report was considered satisfactory. IRREGULAR ATTENDANCE. The Chairman reported having visited the parents of those children who were irregular in their attendance, and that they had promised to send their children regularly to school. INSPECTOR'S REPORT. The Inspector’s report of bis last visit to the school was read and considered highly satisfactory, MIDWINTER HOLIDAYS. On the motion of Mr Geo. Smith, seconded by Mr Bishop, it was decided to close the scheoi from Tuesday, the 28th inst., to July WINDOW BREAKING, it was unanimously resolved that in order to prevent the continuance of breaking panes of glass the teacher be instructed to prevent the u*e of “shanghais" within the school grounds, and that the parents of any children discovered breaking windows should be requested to pay for the same, and that in the event of their refusing to do so legal stops be taken to enforce payment. visitors, . The monthly meeting of this Committee was held in the Schoolroom on the 27th inst. Present—Messrs K. Brophy (Chairman), A. Lyaaght, and W. Bennett. MINUTES. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed. HEAD MASTER. The Chairman stated that since the last meeting of the Committee the Board had sanctioned the appointment of Mr John Menzies, as Head Master of the School, and that gentleman had entered upon his duties on the 13th inst, CORRESPONDENCE. Correspondence was raad— From the Master, asking to be supplied with some school requisites.—lt was resolved that the Chairman attend to the same. Prom Mr Hammond, stating that as Rhubarb Flat is now declared an Educational District, he tendered his raaignation as a member of the Pleasant Valley Committee.—lt was resolved—“ That the same be accepted with regret, and that as Mr Archibald Kennedy was the next highest candidate he bo elected in his stead.” VISITORS. Messrs A. Lysaght and vV. Bennett were appointed a Visiting Committee for the ensuing month. ACCOUNTS, An account of £2 8s 3d was passed for payment and the meeting adjourned. MOUNT~ 3 EEL ROAD BOARD. An adjourned meeting of the Board was held in the Road Board Offine, Peel Forest, on Friday the 24th inst. Present —Messrs R. Mack4y, 6.' J. Dennistoun and R. Thew. In the absence of the Chairman, Mr Q. J. Dennistoun was voted to the chair. MINUTES. The minutes of the last meeting were read and confirmed. CORRESPONDENCE. A letter was read from the Chairman requesting leave of from the meeting. From Messrs Kempthcrno, Prosser and Co., quoting price at which they would supply strychnine.- The Clerk stated that lie bad obtained a supply t.t the ptice quoted. From Mr 0. G. iu reference to matter in dispute haween him and the Board about purchase of cement. INTERVIEW. Mr J. Miles interviewed the Board asking for work at stooebreaking. The Board decided to give him stonebreaking upon certain conditions. CLOSED ROADS. The Clerk was instructed to forward the plans of the road closed and exchanged to Messrs White and Co., for having certificate of title completed. ACCOUNTS, Accounts to the amount of £lB4 6a lOd were pasted for payment. The Board then adjourned.
