IN appealing for subscriptions far the FIRST MAGDALEN ASYLUM, in No* Zealand, the Bi‘ ' o;of, the: “Good shepherd ” desire to express, through , me, I their sincere gratitude bo the inhabitants of tb s Oity and the Colony generally for the kmd co-operation afforded them since th>-j commenced the great work to which their lives are devoted in their temporary reeiue<<ce, Manohoiter Street North. Hourly we meet with a poor Magdalen, tired of a misspent life, seeking a shelter, and finding no security against the biting tbiaits of renewed temptation, turiis aw#y with the weight of the world’s accusation, with the world's condemnation, and becomes the victim of an unholy impulse, which cannot be rootillhd w'ithbub a sigh naj;,, without a tear, Kindly,'therefore, bear in’ intncL —
1. A moifc deniable site has been acquired for the Magdalen near Ohristohurcn. 2. flis Eminence Cardinal Moran laid the foundation-stone at *' Mount MigdaU ” on the 18th February of last year, in the pretence of 6000 people, and the first ' portion of the Asylum it nearly completed. 1 8. The advantages of the Magdalen will be extended to all New Zealand and elsewhere. 1. The waifs and the wanderers Who are rescued from the paths of misery and sib are not asked to whet creed they belong, It is sufficient that they need succour, fi. The inmates of “Mount Magdala”ahd the Good Shepherd Nun« plated over them will remember alwayi, with lively gratitude, the benefacto r* of the institution. , 6. Subscriptions may be paid either in »' part or in full, acodrding to the conf Venienco 'of subscribers. 7. If, therefore, it were ever true to say “that he gives twice who gives quickly," it 1 is particularly so on the present 1 occasion, in order that 1 soon we may see another Home of the Good Shepherd added to the 150 Homes scattered over the globe in which more than 4000 Rbuqibuseb bestow their devoted care on 20,000 ‘ Children and young girl*,: while a judicious channel will be opened for the outlay of the Funds entrusted to the Institution. 8. The Sistere of the Good Shepherd will . be grateful to all thoi.q who encourage •' friends to subscribe to the funds . ofjhe.Magdalen Asylum. On eatates'snch ai are'now being considered the Public Trustee is authorised to charge IV percent, bn all receipts, and 1J per cent, or all die. bursemente, and ss. per cent, on all moneys invested. No charge is made for obtaining I probate, not for passing stamps and property tax returns, nor for correspondence, however voluminous.
