CHRISTCHURCH CORN EXCHANGE.
The Corn Exchange reports for the week ending Friday evening, the 17th insl. :
Business has been fairly active, several large li es having been taken out of Btore for shipment, hut in the main we arc inab'tf to report any improvement in Values. The rates of freight to London are still to high to allow of heavy ship-m'-nta to that marks', the Australian demmd has been ful . p o expectations. The wea'her on the wnolo Pas been favorable for wheat sowing and it has generally been made.good, use-of by farmers.
Wheal—Sales continue to be made on the basis of last weeks quotations, pearl being in os good demand as tnsenn at 3s 6.1 to 3s fd, and buntar’s, which is held in much larger quantities, remains at 3« 5d to 3s 6d; whole chicken wheat is scarce, and'.saleable at 3s 2d to 3s 31; broken var'es from 2s 8d to 2s lid. 0 its—A fair business is being done in bright heavy short feed at Is 9d toJlslOd, but inferior sorts are dull at is 7d to Is 81.
Barley—Malsters are furly wed supplied for the present, but the quantity of malting offering is.very limited, sor wc do not expect much, alteration in prices for some little time to,come. Prime malting is firm at 4s, medium quality varies from 3» 6d,10 3s 10dy feed commands in limited parcels 2* JO I ,to 2s 4d,, Beans are quiet at 3s, and pens (prussian blues) »re extremely dull at 3s to 3s 3d. Ft)"d sorts are si lling at’2« 9d to 2s lOd. Grass Seed —Ryegrass is- still without inquiry, and prices, are nominal. Cocksfoot has seen at®"' sales at 3£d,|p 3|d for well clean’ed and heavy senL ' •
Potatoes show no improvement. Sydney maiket is still reported- ts-be glutted, and interprnvincialr requirements are too small to. influence: the market which remains at 22s £|d at epuniry stations. CHRISTCHURCH STOCK MARKETS,
At the Adlington yards on Wednesday, exceping store and dairy cattle (here were good entries of stock. ’ 1 • ; Fat Cattle—A moderately good entry, the quality being an improvement on late markets. The demand was not over brisk, and little or no improvement in values took .place. ; Prices ranged at froth £5 to £6 12a 6d for steers, and for heifers and fat cows fmra £3 10s to £5 2*, being from 15s to 17s 6d per 1001 b, according as the quality varied-. A very few. store cattle were yarded, and buyers were very scarce and practically no market was held. Sheep— The number of sheep yarded yarded was very, large, the quality,, taken all totin' - ?, t being first rate,: Primesf crpsSr bred wethers sold at from 10s to 12s and 12s 2d per head, the latter price paid for a perfect pen of wethers ; lighter weight wethers sold at from 7a 3d to 8s 9d ; two and four-lootlv maiden ewes sold at from 8s to lls; ewea of: mixed ages from 6s 6d to 10s 31, being from to fully 2d per lb, according to the various quality. Store Sheep— demand was fairly good, all lines being sold. A line of twotooth crossbred wethers fetched 6s 3d ; various lines of crossbred ewes in lamb, 4s 9d to 5s ; a fair line of lambs ; at 5s ; a lot of, aged merino owes at from la ,5d to la lid. !
rigs—A very good entry, for the moat part baconers of ; good . quality. The demand « a* brisk, all lota selling at quite lata rates, viz , 2|l to 3£d per lb, according to weights .and quality where suitable. Bacon , pigs sold at from 30a .to. 45a 61 ; porkers, 15a to 25* ; stores dull of sale.
DUNEDIN PRODUCE MARKETS.
. The following is the report for the week ending Wednesday :-r- :
Wheat—The quantity offering issmall, but as rnd'ers are.not in immediate heed, no advance in prices has taken place. The tendency of tha market is, however, decidedly upwards. Quotations ; Piime milling 'o 4e Id ; exira choice tuscan a shademore ; 'Vnedmm, 3s 91 to 3s lid ; fowls' wheat, 3s to 3s 6d. Gals—-The market may be reported a shade firmer, principally owing to the fact that sellers are net forcing the market with supplies. Buyers, to supply their orders, have had to increase . their limits from to Id per bushel. Prime milling may be quote I at from la B£d to la 9d pur bushel ; best short fesd, la 8d ; medium, Is 7|d ; discolored and inferior, la 61.
Barley Malting continues in fair demand at. 3s 10d to 4s (bags extra); feed, 2s 6d ; millmg 3s.h . ~, i Chaff is in oyer-supply, and prices weaker. Best quality, 4 - 45s ; inf* rior to medium, 31a to 35s per ton. Potatoes—The market is still glutted and prices some as quoted last week—viz., '3Ol to 35a for Derwents. Kidneys arewanted for seed at £3 sa. Butter Best fresh, in mixed cases, 7£d to 8d ; salt, in kegs, 7d, with a full supply. Eggs, IsTOd per dozen, 1 and very scarce.
Sheepfkins —On Monday, town buicherh’ crossbred (green) brought 2s 4d tn 3a 7d ; merinos, Is 9d to 2a 5d ; lambakina, 2s 6d to 3a 3d ; countiy skins from lOd to 3s lid, and dry merino skins in bales (peTs well saved),'4|d per lb. Next week’s sales, will take place bn Monday as usual.
H des of all descriptions, if well cured and free from cuts or Poores, are at present in good demand,. Pries are, however, without qmt ble change. Tallow—Best mutton fat is worth from 10a 6d to lla 6d; medium, 9s to 10a ; best mixed, 8a 61 to 9s ; medium, 7« 6d to 8s ; interior, 5s to 6s 6d.

Eat Cattle —The supply wos a amah one, only 151 being yarded ; nevertheless -it proved quite * qua.l to the trade’.* n. qu'remenls and no rise in prices took place. Meal of the cattle forward were of very indifferent quality; only a few tens really prime. Best bullocks brought from £8 to £8 2a 0d ; medium, £5 10s to £7 10a; lust cows, from £6 to £7 6s; medium, £4 to £5 6a.—Wright, Stephen*
son, and Co. Bold for’Mr Andrew Gran} (IVmuka), 6 bullocks at from £7 10s to £8 2s 6d , for Mr John Douglas (Waihna Downs estate), 7 heifers nt up to £5 7s 6d. .—Donald Roid and Co, sold for Mr Andiew Grant (Temuba), 12 prime bollocks at £7 10s to £8 10s, averaging £8 7s 6d.
Fat Sheep— 2397 penned, including only 75 ratrino wethers. Prices averaged about Is per head higher than last week. Bast crosubred wethers brought from 10a tolls 6d (one pen exceptionally heavy weights 12“ 6 I); medium, 8a to 9a; best crossbred ewes, 9a to 10a 6d ; medium, 7a to Ba.—Wright, Stephenson and Co. sold for Mr John Douglas (Waihao Down psfcnte), merino wethers, at from 6a 6d to 6a 9d ; L. Maclean sold for the executors of the late Mr M. Studholme (Waimate estate), 125 crossbred ewes at 8s ; for Mr W. M'Leod (Waimate), 67 crossbreds at :8s to 95.-Donald Reid and Co. sold for Mr W, Grant (Elloughton Grange), 124 hiilfbred ewes and wethers «t 9a 9d ; for Mr Wm. M'Leod (Waimate) 66 crossbreds to 8s 3d.
Fat L-imbs—249 panned, and sold under good competition at from 5a to 7s 94. Pigs- 224 penned, mostly grain-fed bacon pigs and porkers. Bidding was brisk, and prices rather better. Bacon pigs brought from S4a to 455; porkers, from 21b to 29s'; auck'-rs, 6a to Ba. Wright, Stephenson and Co. sold 43 for Mr John Allan (Genvldi' ,p ) at quotations. L. Maclean sold for Mr J. Mackay (South Cmierbury) 135 baconers from 31a to 41h.
ENGLISH MARKETS. ; London. June 15. Wool has now- advanced level with closing sale-, with the exception of coarse crossbreds, which' are £d below those rates.
Adelaide wheat is Is lower, 36s ; Adelaide flour, 6d lower, 25s 6d. Australian beef tallow* of average quality, 22s 6d ; mutton tallow, 245. At the ! colonial wool sales to day 13,500 bales were offered. The market was firmer. ■ ;;
The New Zealand Laan and Mercantile Agency, Company (Limited) have received the following cablegram from London, dated I4lhJune:—- . Wool —Competition is increasing, and the market is firmer. Since 'the opening of . the sales crossbreds , and superior scoured merino have advanced nearly £d per lb. Up to date 58,000 bales have been sold. ■
: Wheat—The weather is favorable for the crop hero, and the market is weaker. Adelaide wheat,i.a.q., is, werth,,c.i.f., off coast, 36s 61 per'4Bolbs. Frozen Meat —Market depressed. Canterbury mutton and lamb are worth respectively 4d and ,4£d per lb.
The following private telegram, dated London,; June 15th, was received in Cliris'church on Thursday ; ; English Wheat Market—The market is demoralised, caused by depressed advices from America, it is generally understood that the wheat ring ;isr broken. The highest price to-day for off coast , cargoes is 35s 6d, being a dreg of 2a 6d a quar er during the last ten days, >
