IRISH AFFAIRS.

London, June 5.

Exciting scenes occurred at Bodyke, County Clare, Ireland, during the eviction of a of tenants. Three hundred soldiers and police protected the bailiffs, but the evictions were stubbornly resisted. Michael Davitt was present, and harangued tbe people. He expressed regret that be ever deprecated violence being used to oppose tbe execution of the law.

In two long speeches, Mr Gladstone restated bis position in connection with the Irish question, and declared he was ready to modify bis scheme for the purchase of land in Ireland by the State, He further said that the exclusion of Irish members from the Imperial Parliament might be left an open question, it being one which was subsidiary to tbe great international question which involved the cohesion of the Empire and tbe happiness of its people. O’Brien who arranged to attend and address a labor demonstration in this city to-day, revoked his promise at the last moment because the Chairman of the Labor League openly expressed approval of revolutionary acts and the use of dynamite, denounced the private ownership of land, and attacked the Pope. Several speakers at the demonstration violently abused O’Brien for bis refusal to attend.
