In a boxing match at Auckland on Saturday night Mnllhswa proved an easy victor over Richardson, winning the £4O stakes and the championship of New Zealand.
The Wairaraps Rugby Union have decided to offer the Canterbury team £25 towards expanses in the event of a match being played in the Wairarapa during their tour.
In the Appeal Court, Wellington, on Monday, the following decisions were given In the case of Isaacs v. Mills and others (Dunedin) the appeal was dismissed with costs. Leave to appeal to Privy Council was granted on the usual terms. The appeal re (he Land Transfer Act and ra land inSelwyn County (Christchurch) was dismissed with costs. The appsal of Sperry v. Church Property Trustees (Christchurch) was also dismissed with costs. The appeal in the case of Sinclair v, Stuart (Wellington) was allowed in part, but no costs wer® given. In the case of Seymour v, Macdonald, the appeal was dismissed with costs. An accident of a serious nature, by which a one-legged expressman named Clifford, sustained injuries which may deprive him of his,remaining leg, occurred at Wellington on Monday, H's horse bolted and Clifford was thrown out. Onex animation it was found he had sustained a, compound comminuted fracture of the lelt leg just above the knee, and his left am been fractured, while hie head was also had seriously knocked about. On Monday afternoon the Mayor of Grey mouth headed a posse of men with crowbars and other implements, and proceeded to remove iron rails placed on the Cobden bridge by Messrs Hungerford and Mackay for taking material across to their contract on the north bank of the river. It was allege,d on behalf of the Corporation that Mr Mackay (Mr Hungerford being away) pledged his word to remov# the rails on Monday. He alleges that the Mayor promised him compensation, and he was advised that if he lifted the rails voluntarily, or allowed them to be lifted without formal protest, he could not get compensation, consequently he sent a lawyer’s letter, protesting against the removal of the rails. A conflict was apprehended, but the men put on by the Mayor were not molested in any way, A public meeting was held on Monday night at Mornington under the auspices of the Protection League. One ef the audience, named Bradley, attempted to apeak on the freetrade side, but was prevented by a storm of groans and hisses. The Chairman asked that he bo allowed a patient hearing, but the interruptions continued as long as he endeavored to speak.
