THE MAGDALEN ASYLUM. A VOICE FROM MOUNT MAQDALA. AN APPEAL. IN appealing for subscriptions for the FIRST MAGDALEN ASYLUM in ' New Zealand, the Sisters of the "Good Shepherd " defirs to express, through me, their sinoero gratitude to the inhabitant! of thii Oity and the Colony generally for the kind co-operation afforded thetn since they commenced the great work to whioh their lives are devoted in their temporary residence, Manchester Street North. Hourly we meet with a poor Magdalen, ired of a misspent life, seeking a shelter, and fie ding no security against the biting tblaits of renewed temptation, turns away with the weight of the world's aoousation, with the world's condemnation, and becomes the victim of an unholy impulse, whioh cannot be recalled without a sigh nay, without a tear, Kindly, therefore, bear in mind—1. A mojfc desirable site bas been acquired for tho Magdalen near Christohurch. 2. His TSminehoe Cardinal Moran laid tho foundation stone at "Mount Magdala" on the 18th February of last year, in the presence of 5000 people, and the first portion of the Asylum is nearly complcted. 3. K'be advantages of the Magdalen will be extended to all New Zealand and elsewhere. 4. Xhe waifs and the wanderers Who are rescued from the paths of misery and sin are not aeked to whsfc creed they belong. It is sufficient that they need succour. 5. The inmates of "Monnt Magdala"and tho Good Shepherd Nuns placed over them will remember always, with lively firatitude, the benefactors of the institu« tion. 6. Subscriptions may be paid either in part or in full, acoording to the convenience of subscribers. 7. If, therefore, it were ever true to say "that he given twice who gives quickly," it is particularly bo on the present oooaiion, in order that soon: we may see another House of the Good Shepherd Bdded to tho 150 Homes scattered over the globe in whioh more than 4000 EeligibuSßß bectow their devoted care on 20,000 Children and young girls, while u judicious channel will be opened for the outlay of the Funds entrusted to the Institution, 8. The Sisters of the Good Shepherd will be grateful to all thoie who enoouwge their friends to subecribo to the funds of the Magdalen Asylum. Tho faver of an early response will enable me to bring to a speedy oonolmion an insti. tution from which oircles of good must emanate to exeroite a salutory influenoe on the future of the Colony. SUtiSORIRTIOtfS will also bo received by Mebbbs A. J. WHITE and H. H. LOUGHNAN ; and the Sav. Mother Prioress Convent of the Good Shepherd, Manchester Street North. Cheques and P.O. Orderß to be made rmvable 'o me, P LM, GINATY, S.M., Mis. Beet., Managing Trußtee. Ohristohuroh, May, 1887. mj26
