FIRE AT THE OPERA COMIQUE.
London, April 26, The scene at the fire at the Opera Comique, Paris, was indescribable. When the alarm was given an employ'd in the theatre turned the gas out, and the audience were left in darkness. Many were unable to find the doors, and some of both sexes in desperation jumped from the windows at a great height and were killed. The majority of the audience got out safely through the ordinary outlets, which were abundantly provided. Fully 60 casualties are reported. May 27. Eighty dead bodies have been recovered from the ruins of the Opera Oomique. Many of those injured were women of fashion and ballet girls. The audience was leaving the building quietly until the smuke made its appearance, when a terrible panic ensued. Many were trampled to death on the stairs, whilst others were burnt to death or suffocated, Paris, May 28. It is now estimated that fully 100 lives were lost by the fire at the Opera Oomique. The bodies of several English ladies have been extricated from the ruins. .
