The Secretary of the New Zealand Rifle Association has received a request from the South Australian National Rifle Association, that New Zealand should he represented by a team at the Jubilee Rifle Meeting at Adelaida in August next. The proprietors of the three largest boot factories in Wellington have written to the Colonial Treasurer, asking him to reconsider the proposition to raise the duty on leather. At a meeting of the creditors in the estate of T. Low, held at Dunedin on Monday, ir was resolved to grant the bankrupt bis furniture and » salary of £6 a week, aad to offer him the estate for £7BOO. Mr G. L. Denuiston, of Rattray street, the supervisor, said they had found themselves unable to carry on the business. The. One hundred and eighty men applied at the Public-Works office, Christchurch, on Monday, in response to an advertisement calling for 100 men te work on the Midland Railway. The Government have instructed the Public Works officials to put 40 men to work in Hegley Park.
