OPEN LODGE MEETING, 1.0.G.T.

An open meeting of the Welcome Retreat Lodge, Geraldine, was held on Monday evening last. Preparations had been made to hold the meeting on a large scale, but owing to the extremely wet night the attendance was not so large as it would doubtless otherwise have been. The hall, however, was comfortably filled, Mr J. W. Pye, W.C.T., occupied the chair. A long and varied programme had been prepared, and waa successfully carried out. Owing to the absence, through sickness, of Mr T. Sherrati, the duty of conducting the choir devolved upon another member of the Lodge, who succeeded admirably. The musical part of the programme was opened by the choir, who sang the glee “ The Red Cross Knight” in a capital manner. Miss Dunlop rendered the solo “True to the last ” excellently. Mr E. Mabio followed with “ The Englishman,” which was loudly applauded. Mrs Porteous, who was in good voice, sang “Pretty White Lillies” capitally, and was followed by Mr A, Baker with “ The Pilot,” in which he was very successful, A recitation by Master Bennett, “ Bernardo and Alpbonso,” was much enjoyed. Miss Dean had to respond to a hearty encore for her sioging of “ Carrier John,” and repeated the last verse. A member of the Lodge contributed “ The Sailor’s Farewell ” in capital style. Miss Dunlop was loudly applauded for her singing of “ The Blue Bells of Scotland.” Mr Brooker closed the first part of the concert with the song “The Owl,” in which he was very successful. The next item of “Buns and Coffee” was taken part in by all present to their evident satisfaction. The second part was then opened by the choir singing the glee “ Hark the Lyre.” Miss Dean 1 fob lowed with the song “Auntie,” which was much appreciated, The duet, cornet and clarionet, by Messrs Stonehouse and Weston respectively, was well given. “ The Three Smiths ” by a member of the Lodge was capitally given. Master Goilbert recited “The Charge of the Light Brigade ” very well indeed. Mrs Porteous bad to respond to a hearty encore for her singing of-“The'Old Cottage Clock,” and substituted “ We Parted by the Riverside.” Mr Baker had to repeat the last verse of “The Rose and Shamrock,” the whole audience joining in the chorus. The dialogue, “Gesler and Tell,” given by Masters Bennett 1 and Guilbeit, was much enjoyed. Miss Dunlop was very successful in her singing of “ The Blue Alsatian Mountains." The glee by the choir, “ Calm be Thy Slumbers” closed the programme. The W.C.T, thanked those who were present for attending in such numbers on such a

wet evening. He facetiously hinted that it was just possible that the inclement evening hart been a fortunate circumstance, as otherwise very serious results might have been caused through orercrowding. The singing of the National Anthem closed the proceedings. The Misses R. and E. Dean with Miss Andrews accompanied the singers.
