At a meeting of the Otago Harbor , Board on Thursday, a Committee was ! appointed to inquire into the Board’s finances. One of the members stated that the expenses exceeded the receipts by £SOOO a year. At Invercargill on Wednesday ex. Councillor Bastian was fined £5, and costs £llss for assaulting Councillor McDonald at a Council meeting. A movement is on foot to pay the fine and re-elect Bastian to the Council, The Waititi contract of the North Island Trunk Railway will employ 200 men for two years. Captain Bell, who cune to New Zealand in 1839, died at Auckland on Thursday. Deceased was the first white boy to land at Owhyhee, where Captain Cook was murdered,
