MEETINGS OF HOUSEHOLDERS.
HILTON.
The annual meeting of householders to electa Committee for tho shove school was held last Monday night, when there Was a very good attendance. The chair was taken by Mr O. Q. Bradley, who read the Inspector’s report, which stated that *' the school bad passed a good examination ;good order was kept, and the manners of the children were attended to.” The Treasurer’! statement was read and adopted. .: The meeting balloted for a new Committee, and elected the following:— Messrs W. Beattie, B. Cochrane, W. Hide, J. Leary, S. Hooke, B. Skinner, and A. Toomey. Nbw Committbb Mbbtino.

WOODBURY. _, The annual meeting of householders in , the' Woodbury District was held on Monday evening last. Mr J. H. Dean, Chairman of the School Committee, occupied the chair, and stated the purpose . for . which the meeting wan held, ■ ■ .-The minutes of the last annual meeting were read and confirmed. The Committee's report for (he last . . year was read as follows Ost'n.BKßV, Your Committee have much pleasure in laying before you the report of the past year's proceeding*. The Committee hare bad 310 ordinary and 4 •pedal meetings, with an average attendants of f t* members. .Finance —During the past year the Committee have reeeived from the
Board of Education £32 11s 6d, and have expended £27 17s 6d, leaving a balance in band for the ensuing year o! £4 14s. In addition to this the Committee bare received from various sources (a schedule of which ie herewith presented) the sum of £2l 6s 4}d for the school treat and prize fund, out of which the; hare disbursed £l7 19s 7d, leaving a balance of £3 6s 9}d as a nucleus for next year’s prise fund. Repairs—Various snHI repairs have been effected both to the schuul and the premises generally. The Board have had the whole of the buildings,
gates, etc., painted, giving a very neat appear anoe to the prsmisss. Condition of School— The attendance during last year maintained a high, average throughout, which waa very gratifying to the teaching staff and the Committee, but since the examination there has been a falling off in this respect . Tbit is lo be regretted, as irregular attendance of a minority (ends to retard the progress of the whole school. The number on the roll is 112. From the Inspector's report wo learn that the school continues in a astir factory state as regards both discipline and a tainment. lbs pn. > utage in pass subjects was 44, and in class subjects 63. In addition we have muoh pleasure in recording the success of one of our pupils (Mies Fiefield) in higher subjects, thus securing one of the Board’s senior scholarships. The Committee congratulate the parents on the effective instruction imparted to their children, ae shown by the Inspector’s report, and for their efficient Head Master, Mr Greaves. Your Committee trust tbat during the coming year the parents will second the efforts of the staff by sending tbsir children regularly, for it is only by good attendance, coupled with diligence on the part of the pupils themselves, that they can become thoroughly grounded in their work and receive what is desssrvmg tbs name of education. The Committee's report was considered highly satisfactory, and upon the motion of Mr Flatman, seconded by Mr Hammond, it w»a unanimously adopted. Before proceeding to the election of a Committer, Mr Flatman said he weuld like to propose a hearty vote of thalaks to the Head Master, Mr Greaves, tor the very able manner in which be bad conducted the school for so long a period. The meeting unanimously recorded the vote by acclamation. Mr Greaves responded to tha vote in a very appropriate speech.
The Chair mao aaid the next business was (be election of a new Committee. This was {done, and resulted in the reelection of the old Committee, with the exception of. Mr Allau Macdonald, the only new member. The following are the namea of those elected Messrs J. fl. Dean, F. E. Flatmao, A. Macdonald, G. Hammond, Heatley, Middlemiss, and Gick. New Committee Meeting, .
The first meeting of the newly-sleeted Committee was then held, when Mr J, H. Dean was unanimously re-elected as Chairman. Mr Dean thanked them for the honor done him, and said that as hitherto he he should use his best endeavors for the interests of the school. On the proposition of Mr Flatman, seconded by the Chairman, it was decided to ask Mrs Evans to interview the Commitce on Monday evening next rs cleaning. On the proposition of Mr Flatman, seconded by Mr Macdonald, it was decided to invite tenders for four cords of black pine, and five cords mixed firewood. It was resolved—" That the ordinary meeting of the Committee be held on the first Monday in each month at 7 p.m.” The meeting then terminated. PLEASANT VALLEY.
The annual meeting of householders was held in the Pleasant Valley schoolroom on Monday, 25tb April. There was a good attendance.
The Chairman then read the annual report as follow* ; Gbktlbhbw,— l bare the honor to lay before you the annual report on your Com* mittee’s proceeding* during the past year. Since the laat annual meeting 13 regular and 3 special meetings hare been held. The financial year began with a balance of £l4 9s Id, £25 12i was reoeired for incidental expense*, and £5 as a special grant, making a total of £45 Is Id. Out of this £3219s 8d was expended, leaving a balance at the beginning of the year of £l2 Is Sd. The usual repairs in the shape of cutting and grubbing gone have been attended toj the large stones have been picked off the playground, and the wire fence which enclosed the trees, being of no further use, has been removed. The Committee obtained a grant of £5 from the Board for the purpose of erecting an outhouse, which was very urgently needed. The school has been yisited twice by the Board’s Inspectors—by Dr Anderson in July (or the purpose of inspection, and by Mr Qow in January for the annual examination. We are pleased to state that although the teachers have bad a number of adverse circumstances to contend with, both reports were of a most satisfactory character. We are unable to lay these reports before you, as they have been returned to the Education office, but as they were published in the papers you are no doubt already well acquainted with their content#. Attached is a statement of accounts of treat and prize fund The balance in hand from last year was £2 18s 6d ; in January a very successful concert was held, the sum remaining after paying expenses being £8 19s { subscriptions from parents, £6 2s ; sals of goods remaining from treat, £1 7s 6d, making a total of £l9 2s. Ot this sum £l6ll* was expended on treat and prizes, leaving a balance of £2 11s for the next year. K. Bbovht, Chairman. The report was adopted on the motion of Mr A, Lysagbt, seconded by Mr Oregon. The election of the new Committee was then proceeded with, when the following gentlemen were declared duly elected: — Messrs Brophy, B, Hammond, A. Lysaght, J. Grogan, D. Grogan, W- flennejit, and B. Truropsr. Kaw Committhb Mbetxng.
Immediately after the public meeting the new Committee mefcj when Mr E. Brophy Was re.-eleoted Chairman for the ensuing year. It waa resolved that tjjp Chairman and A. Lysaght aign cheques, and that the Com : mittee meet on the last Monday in each month at 7 p.m. Accounts amounting to £2 9s 2d were passed for payment, and the meeting adjourned,
