ASHBURTON MARKETS. Mr E, G. Staveley (for the New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company, Limited ) reports an : the Ashburton sale, 26th tost. asTollows : About 12,000 sheep and average number of cattle yarded. Good ■ attendance, and improved enquiry for young sbaep,; for which values had a hardening tendency. Cattle were dull. Fat cows made £3 5« to £4 7a 6d ; forward bullocks, £5 ; fat crossbred swes, 4s, 4s 8d and 6a 6d ; halfbred wethers in forward condition, la lOd ; two-tooth mizedcroßsbrebs,3s2d, 3s 5d and 3s 9d ; full-mouth merino ewes, Is 6d, Is 7d and Is 9d ; forward four and siz-too'h crossbreds, 5s 8d and 6s; medium crossbred lambs, 2s 6d and 5s 2d. AUSTRALIAN MARKETS. Melbourne, April 26. The Melbourne Manager of the National Mortgage and Agency Company, Limited, of New Zealand reports on the local grain market as follows : Whsat, 3s lid to 4s, prices barely maintained ; barley, 4s 9d to 5s 6d, a steady but not active demand. Oats— Feed sorts, 2s 9d to 2s lOi, a better demand ; milling sorts, 2s lOd to 2s lid, firm ; under bond, 2a 2d to 2s 3d. ENGLISH MARKETS.
The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company (Limited) have received the following cablegram from London, dated 23rd April 1887 Wool—The sale closed to-day at the level of last sales, except that the market is firmer tor coarse crossbred, and fine and greasy crossbred have advanced £d per lb. Greasy merino lambs’ wool has also advanced £dl per lb, and faulty lambs’ wool has declined £d to Id per lb. The sales comprise about 220,000 bales; 25,000 bales have been held over for future disposal ; 120,000 bales were taken for the 'Continent, and 1488 for America, Tallow Good mutton and beef tallows are worth 22s 9d and 21s 9d per owt., respectively,
