AUCTIONEERS’ REPORTS.
GERALDINE. J. Mundell and Co. report 'on the sale of skins at their .-ootos, Geraldine, on Monday ;—The attendance of buyers was an average one and all lots submitted found buyers at the following satisfactory prices: Butchers’ crossbreds, 2s 4d, 2s lOd to 3s 4d ; butchers’ merinos, Is 6d to Is 10d ; fanners’ crossbreds, Is 2d, Is 4d, 1« 6d to 2s lOd ; merino skins, 6d, lOd, Is, Is 3d ; locks and pieces sold at 3£d. DUNEDIN PRODUCE MARKETS.
The following is the report for the Week ending Wednesday ; Wheat —The market is void of animation, and transactions during the week have been unimportant, as millers ore indisposed to do business at sellers’ quotations. Quotations are : For 'prime millin >■ velvet and tuscan, 3s 7d to 3s 8d ; a superior sample, id to hi more ; other kinds, in good condition, 3s 6d to 3s 7d ; inferior and medium, 3s to 3* 3d ; seconds and fowls’ wheat, 2s 6d to 3s ex store. Oats —These still continue to come forward freely, and there is no improvement in prices. Discolored and thin oats are difficult to quit. Quotations are as follow : Prime stout milling, Is 7£d to Is 8d ; short blight feed, la 7d to Is 7£d; medium Is 6M to la 7d ; discolored and inferior, 1s 3d to la 6d (ex store, bags weighed in), Barley—Sales have been made during the week of good malting at up to 4s, and fair to good may be quoted at 3s 8d to 3s lOd ; feed and milling scarce, but not in much demand.
Ryegrass Seed—There is no improvomedt in this. Machine-dressed (from old pastures) 3s 3d to 3s 6d ; farmers’ undressed, 2s to 2h 9d (bags extra). Cocksfoot Seed—The demand is weak, and the market dull, with little or no inquiry ; prices nominal. Chaff—Best - oaten sheaf, £2 12s 6d ; medium, £2 5s to £2 7s 6d. Po;atoes—Bert Kaknnui’s sell locally at £2 10s.;-Southerns, £2 5a to £2 7a 6d. Butter—There is a, fair demand for prime salt in kegs at 7d to 7£d ; fresh, B£d, for best mixed cases. , Eggs- la 8d per doz. Sheepskins—On Monday country dry crossbred, infe ior to medium, brought 8d to 3s 3d ; do do merino, 7d to 3s ; good to best crossbreds. 3s 4d to 4s 7d ; do do merino, 3? Id to 4s 3d ; dry pelts, 2d to 6d ; butchers’ green crossbreds, 2s to 3s ; do merino, Is 6d to Is lOd ; lambskins, 2s Id to 2s Bd, Hides—Current prices are as follow : For bulls and slippy, l£d to 2d ; light, 2jd to 2fd ; medium, 2|d to 3£d ; heavy and free from offal and cuts, 3|d to 4|d per lb. Tallow—A fair demand continues to exist for local requirements, which may be quoted as follow ;—For inferior and mixed 10s to 13s medium to good, 14s to 15s; best mutton, 16s to 19s ; rough fat, inferior, 6s to 7s ; medium, 8a to 9s ; good to best, 10s to 11s per cwt. DUNEDIN STOCK MARKETS.
At the Burnside Yards on Wednesday the following business was transacted :—• Pat-Cattle—23s head were yarded, prices realised being considerably below last week’s. Best bullocks brought £6 5s to £7 15s—one pen to £8 32a 6d ; others, £3 10s to £5 15s; cows, £3 to £5 15s, — Messrs Wright, Stephenson and Co. sold for Mr M. Quinn (Tsmuka), 2 very prime bullocks at £8 17s 6d, and 5 steers at £5 2s 6d to £6 2s 6d.—Messrs Donald Reid and Co. sold for Messrs M'Goverin and Hardio (Hook, Waimate), 14 bullocks up to £6 17s 6d. Fat Calves—Two sold at 19s to 28s. Fat Sheep—The number penned to-day was again a large one, viz., 3016, all crossbreds, with the exception of about SOmeriuos, Best crossbred wethers, 6s to 7s 6d—one small pen of 20, 9i; light and medium, 4a 9d to 5s 9d ; crossbred ewes (best), 5s to 7s ; others, 2s 6d to 4a 8d; merino wethers, 4s.—Mr L. Maclean sold for the executors df the late Mr M. Studholme (Waimate estate), 130 crossbred ewes from 4s 9d to 5s 6d. Fat Lambs—6ll were penned; rather an over-supply for the time of the year. Competition was only moderately brisk, prices ranging from 4s 6d to 7s. Pigs—46o were penned, and, considering this large number forward, competition for all sorts was fairly active. Suckers brought 3s 6d to 6s 6d ; stores, 11s to J9s; porkers, 20s to 26s ; baooners, 30s to 425, Horses—Messrs Wright, Stephenson, and Co, quote first-class heavy draughts at from £2O to £35 ; medium, £l2 to £l6 ; fiist-clasa hacks and light harness horses, £ls to £2O; good useful young hacks, suitable for India, £lO to £ls; medium, £8 to £l2; light and weedy, £llos to £5. AUSTRALIAN MARKETS.
Sydney, April 23. New Zealand'wheat, 3« 6d to 3a 9d ; New Zealand oats, 2s to 2a 5d : maize, 2s lOd, ENGLISH MARKETS.
London, April 22. Colonial breadstuffs— Adelaide wheat, ex store, 36s 6d ; New Zealand wheat, 33a to 37« 61 ; Adelaide flour, 255. The total quantity of wheat afloat for the United Kingdom is 1,740.000 quarters, and for the Continent 4,970,000 quarters.
April 23. The wool sales closed to*duy very firm. One hundred a. i twenty thousand bales have been taken for export, and 25,000 been reserved. Merinos retained the February average. Coarse crossbreds advanced 5 per cent., and the best qualisies of lamb’s wool, 5 to 10 per cent. Faulty showed a similar decline. Wheat is inactive. Prices are weaker. Old Australian on the spot is 37s ; new shipments 365, on passage. A January parcel has been sold at 34s 3d, and a March-April shipment at 34s 6d, both in London. Melbourne, April 22. Qoldsborough and Co. have received the following telegram from London, dsted the 21st inst During the present senes 240,000 bales have been catalogued, 25,000 bales being held over. Fifty per
