CHRISTCHURCH CORN EXCHANGE. The Corn Exchange reports for the week ending Friday evening, the 22nd inst. ; A fair amount of business has been transacted during the week, and the market generally may be said to bare closed firm. Shipping is being carried on briskly, both in London and inter* colonial markets. The non arrival of the bir Robert Sale has greatly inconvenienced the potato lifting. Wheat —All parceli in good condition on offer are quickly taken np at last week’s quotations. Tuscan 8s s£d to 3s 6d. Pearl and hunters are also wanted at 3s 4£d to 3s s£d. Second quality, and chickwheat is in good demand at last week’s rates. Oats—Business in this cereal has been rather dull for the past week, on account of the orders going to the Bluff, where at the present buyers are more leniently dealt with, gripes, however, are unaltered at Is 9d for short feed, and 1* 7d to Is 8d for the long and inferior grades. Barley The firm tone previously noted continued, and anything fit for malting is quickly taken np, Choipe lots are in demand at $ s fid to 3s Bd, and good sound malting lines command 8s 2d to'Bs 41, and medium at 2s lOd to 8s } feed is worth 2s 4d.

Grass seed has been dull, the season being considered over. Farmers’ parcels are nominal at 2s 3d to 3s, and machine-dressed is quiet at 3s 6d to 3s 9d. Cocksfoot has been in better request at to 3|d. Potatoes—A good many sales have been made at 27s 6d to 28s at country stations, and the market may bo considered firm. Dairy Produce—No changes can be noted in value of this produce, and last week’s quotations are unaltered. The above quotations are for delivery, f.0.b., Lyttelton, sacks extra.

CHRISTCHURCH STOCK MARKETS, At the Addington yards on Wednesday, fairly large entries of stock were sent forward for the week’s supply, the attendance of buyers and others being about an average one. Cattle—Fat: A moderately good entry, mostly of medium quality and weights. The demand was not very keen, and sales were made at about If te values, viz., from 16s to 18s per 1001 b, acoording to quality, steers selling at from £4 10s to £B, and heifers and fat cows at from £3 35s to £5 15s. Stores: In the store cattle market a few lines of well-grown steers were offering, and these were sold at a little improvement on late values. A good line of three-year-old steers sold at £5 per head, and a line of two and]* half year-olds at £3 15s. Lines of dry cows sold at from £2 7s 6d to £3 5a par head. Sheep—Fat: The yards set apart for fat sheep were again this week only partly filled, the quality, on the whole, being a great improvement on last week’s entry. Values were, if anything, firmer. A really splendid line of crossbred wethers reached the comparatively high price of lls per head, ewes of the same consignment selling at 9s 6d ; other lines of crossbred wethers sold at from 8s 6d to 10s ; lighter weight wethers, from 7s to 8s ; medium crossbred ewes, from 5s to 6s fid, and inferior from 3s 9d to 4s. Merino wethers were only in moderate supply, and sold at from 3s to 4s lid, prices per lb for the day being from |d to l£d per lb, according to the quality. Stores : A fairly numerous entry. Crossbred breeding ewes sold at from 3s 9d to 4s lOd ; old ewes for boiling at from 2s to 2s 3d. Fat Lambs—A great number yarded, buyers having it all their own way, and all but the very best lots feeing sold for scarcely more than the value of the skin. Very good lambs sold at from 3s to 4s per head ) really' good sorts at 4s 9d to 5s 3d. Pigs—A very heavy entry yarded of , all descriptions. Demand not very active and prices low. Good heavy well fed pigs sold at from 26s to 36s per head, equal to about 3d per lb ; medium-sized porkers from 18s to 24s ; good stores, 16s to 22s ; small stores from la upwards.

ENGLISH MARKETS. London, April 19. At the wool sales to-day good competition was manifested, for ali lots. Ten thousand one hundred bales were offered. The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company (Limited) have received the following cablegram ftom London, dated 19th April 1887 : Wheat—The market is quiet. New Zealand wheat—Average and longberried are worth 35s and 36s per 4961bs respectively. Victorian wheat, to arrive steamer, is worth, 34s per 4801bs, in London, March-April bill of lading ; Victorian wheat, to arrive, iron ship, is worth 35s per 4801bs, April bill of lading.
