TIMARU HARBOR BOARD.

The monthly meeting of the Timaru Harbor Board waa held yesterday. Preient —Messrs J. 3. Sutter (Chairman), E. Aoton, K. F. Gray, E. G. Ken, T. Teschemaker, F. R. llatman, M. Jonas, I. L. Morris, J. Talbot, J. Man:hester, and J. Wilion. Mr Flatman drew attention to a letter from Mr Turner to the Board having appeared in the public papers, contrary to the with of the Board, The Secretary stated that he did not know from whom the letter was ob> tatned. The Secretary was ingfcrnoted to convey the thanks of the Board to Mr John Ollivier, who had audited the Board'* accounts during the past 10 years. The Chairman itated that Meian 0. 7. O'Connor and A. D. Austin had been the Boyal Commission appointed to report on the improvements to the harbor, and gave members in Committee a short aooount of their late fitting in Timaru. A letter was received from the Otago Harbor Board with regard to oharges on goods the absolute property of the Qo?ernment, and it was decided to support that Board's proposals. Messrs MoEwan wrote stating that the Board's new dredge and other plant had been shipped in the barque Mennook, due at Timaru next month.

With regard to other parts of his report, the Harbormaster was instructed to take the Titan to Jjyttelton; it was decided to g4t one east*steel spiral spring as an experiment (for use instead of coir hawsers), and that surf boats only be used in oase of necessity by steamers, to be free of charge, the agents to find all labor and. take all responsibility in working. The engineer reported that 58 feet of breakwater oontraot No. 6 had been finished, and 62 feet of foundation blocks laid. Ho did not think the report of the Boyal Commission would be ready for two or three weeks. He reoommended that the building and launching of the new dredge should be let by contract, and advised the building of a slip whioh could be used for the periodical cleaning of the dredge and the tug Titan $ the cost he estimated at from £6OO to £BOO according to the plan adopted. It was decided to call for tenders for renewing the paddle boxes of the Titan and for ereotiog the dredge, and tq purchase the slip plant, etc, mentioned, Mr Marohant to prepare the whole thing for next meeting.
