THE LAND QUESTION.

TO THE EDITOR. Sir, I noticed in your valuable paper the other day a condensed speech of the Hon. J. Bryce at Marton, in which he said he did not believe in putting people on the 'and who had no money. The Toty spirit which Mr Bryc» has manifested is to help those who have money. His doctrine is to favor capital; the weak and poor must stop where they are. They must cringe and be« at the rich min's table for a few crumbs that fall therefrom. But Mr Bryce practices the very thing that he does not believe in. How many men were favored or allowed to take large tracts of land whoD they had no money of tbeir own, but wore favored by some loan couipuny or bauk to get the same by hook or by crook ; now they must pay the piper of heavy interest. But when a largo body of men. whose labor is not required because of labor-saving machines that do. most of the work, have found out a remedy, viz., by asking the Government, to open up land for them to settle on with their families, the cry is raised, " They have no money 1" Just as if money itself was true riches, when in reality money, land and labor constitute true wealth. There is a fine opening in this district for tbe working classes if they were placed on the land, for they have the bone and muscle for the development of tbe resources of the district. There are several factories that must be supplied, and soon a Jam Factory will be smarted, which will require fruit, at,d surely the Directors will take some of the produce from those men who have already settled on a smali piece of land. It would encourage the laboriug classes to take an interest in these local industries by favoring their protection, and we should insist on those gentlemen coming forward at the next election doing so. And whoever he may be let him be like an angel of light.. If he does not fuvor Lnhd Settlement, Protec lion of Local industries, and Cheap Money for farmers, have nothing whatsoever to do with him. Better vote for Father Edgeler. —I am, etc., Tobt.
