MOUNT PEEL ROAD BOARD.
The ordinary meeting ef the Board was held in the Road Board Office, Peel Forest, on Friday, the 15th lost, Present—The Hon. J. B. A, Acland (Chairman), Messrs 0. G. Tripp, R. Their, and G. J. Dennistonn. MINUTBS. The minutes of the previous meeting were rend and confirmed. XHS board's accounts. The Clerk submitted the accounts of the Board for the past year, duly certified to by the Provincial District Auditor as correct. A letter iras read from the Auditor, calling attention to a payment made to Mr C. Q. Tripp for a supply of cement, and commenting upon the legality of the proceeding.—Mr Tripp explained that he had supplied the cement for the Completion of a work then in hand, urgently required on purpose to save time, and only charged the Board the same price for it that he had himself paid ; but as it was evident to him that a breach of the Act had been inadvertantly committed he would reaign bis seat upon the Board. He then retired from the meeting. COBBESTONDBirCB. Letters were read From the Manager of the Trust and Agency Company, stating that the occupiers of run No. 443 were Messrs Studholme, Banks, and Wigley, who were vesponsible tor the rate. From the Registrar-General, forwarding form of statistics to be filled up.— The Clerk stated that the forma had been filled up and torwarded to the RegistrarGeneral as required. From Mr J. Smith, forwarding the plan of the proposed deviation of road through the Timaru Borough Council reserve. From the Colonial Treasurer, aeUciticg contributions for the establishment and support of the Imperial Institute.—No action was taken in tbs matter. ’ mTBRVIBW. Mr F, Flatuiau bad au interview with the Board in reference to the timber
growing upon the road in section 1372, and offering £2 for the timber,—The bffer was accepted, ANNUAL MHTINO. Resolved— “ That tho annual meeting of the ratepayers be held on Monday, 2nd May, and that the Returning Officer take the necessary steps for filling the vacancies on 'the Board caused by Mr Tripp's retirement, and by the members who retire according to the Road Board Act.” ACCOUNTS. Accounts to the amount of £49 4s 6d were passed -for payment, sod the Board then adjourned.
PUBLIC MEETING OF BATE PATERS A public meeting of ratepayers of the, district was held on the same day. The Hod. J. B. A. Aclaad (Chairman of the Board) presided. The Chairman read the advertisement calling the meeting, and explained that the object of the meeting was to determine whether certain roads in the district should be stopped or not, tho roads in question having bees rendered useless by the substitution of other roads laid off in mpre accessible positions, the proposed stoppage having been duly advertised in conformity with the requirements of the Public Works Act, The plans of tho roads were submitted and examined by the meeting, when it was proposed by the Chairman, seconded by Mr JDeuDlstouo, and carried unani.mbusly—“ That the roads described on the plans numbered 191, 192, and 190 be stopped.” Ibis being all the business the meeting terminated.
