AROWHENUA TOWN BOARD.

An adjourned meeting of the Arewhenu* Town Board was held at Mr Lee'a residence on Thursday evening last. Present— Messrs L\e (Chairman), Story, Idgeler, Proud lock and Austin. MINUTBB. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed! CORRISSFONDINGB. Correspondence was read as follows ■:•*», From Mr Brown, Registrar-General, requesting information re statistics. Stnbbs, Olerk to tha Geraldine County Council, forwarding a copy of the resolution passed by tha Council re a rate, and asking when the Board intended to strike the rate for1888.— 4Jter some discission Mr Proud* lock proposed, Mr Story seconded, and it was carried—" That it is not the intention of this Bo'ird to strike a rate for .several months, but if that time ia convenient for the Council, this Board is willing to .collect the rate." It was thought by the Board that, ab the Clerk hid mentioned the reserve n**ar Mr Morgan's the contractor had made out bia tender on that basis, and it waa d< < uled thai) that should be the reserve from where the shingle should be drawn for the contract.—A long discussion ensued as to the desirability of accepting the ten* der, it being thought that the work could have been done much The members contended that the Board should get their work done as cheaply as possible, as the funds were getting short. "To the Chairman and Commissioners, Arowhenua Town Beard, "Gentlemen,--I have the honor to re port that since last Board day I. have had one man employed 20 days cutting thiates grubbing gorse and cleaning out water* tables, and I think 4 or 5 more days will finish for the present. Contract,No. 2 is complete, and a voucher is before yon for payment. According to section 27 of the Town Districts Act, 1881, Amendment, it is necessary that the treasurer prepare a yearly balance-sheet, al«o a statement of assets and liabilities for the yaav ending March 31st, 1887,, also a statement of reserves (but as none of the reserves are let it is useless to make out a statement), and the Board >hall in the month of May hold a special meeting tot

considering the balance-shunt, and settlipg lime, and when so settled the Ohairman shall sign, the balance-sheet fo settled, and the Board shall cause such balance-sheet and detailed statement W' of accounts tb be published or posted in some public place for the information of the ratepayers. A long discussion took place on the Subject of the Board's cottages. It was decided to get the Board's cottages irepaired, and everything connected with them pot in good order, with the view of obtaining a higher rental for them, as it was held that in their present stale no one would lice to inhabit them, much * less to pay fair rent for them. The Chairman and Clerk wer« empowered to have the necessary work carried out. The Clerk was instructed to nee to the insurance of the cottages. Accounts to the amount of £l9 16s 6d were passed for payment, and the Board adjourned. __
