Gbaud Lodok 01 Good Tmhtcabs.— The thirteenth session of the Grand Lodge of New Zealand wa» opened at Ohrietcburoh on Tuesday morning. Bro. John Harding, Grand Worthy Chief Templar, called the Lodge to order at 10.15 o’clock. There waa a good attendance of membere present. Among those who presented their credentials was Bro. Baker, of Geraldine, The Grand Lodge Degree was conferred on several Brothers and Sisters who presented proper credentials, and the G.W.G.T. gave a cordial welcome to all present. Official receptions were given to Bro. J. A. D. Adams, Worthy Grand Templar of Australia and New Zealand, and to Bro. W. Johnson, Grand Worthy Councillor of the Lodge ef New Zealand of the World. Bro. Johnson’s visit is preliminary to the reunion of the two Orders in New Zealand, The basis of reunion was agreed to by a Joint Committee of both Bight Worthy Grand Lodges, and it is expected that the action of the Joint Committee will be ratified by both Orders in session assembled next May, The Grand Chief Templar’s report was read, and those clausea bearing on the proposed reunion was referred to a Committee to report. He suggested that the next annual meeting of the Lodge should bs bald at Napier in January, when the ** World ” hold their annual meeting. A resolution was proposed sympathising with W.O. Bro. Harding in the loss be has sustained by the death of his wif*. Thfc report of the Grand Secretary stated that on February, 1885, they w fth 4190 members, and though 333? Dew members had • been initiated, the Urgent membership was 2806, a deoroa»/ e 0 f 1384 „n last report j 451 | members - W ere initiated for the quarter ended ■®**truary lat, 1887. The total income for the term, from March let, 1886, to March 31st, 1887, was, including cash balances from the previous term, £70417s 8d ; expenditure, £567 4s 3d j cash balance in hand, £137 13s sd. The report of Bro. Robbias, G.B. Juvenile Good Templars, showed that in the past two years little had been accomplished in juvenile work, and soma suggestions were made which it was thought would improve matters. The report of Bro. Adams, representative to the meeting of the W.G. Lodge of Australasia, held at Sydnay, was read. The reports were adopted, and after some other business of little interest had been transacted the meeting adjourned. There was a smart shook of earthquake at Napier at 4 o’clock on Tuesday morning, lasting fifteen aeoonda. The first ram fair waa held at Invercargill on Tuesday. Entries were fairly numerous. Young Leicester and Lincolns made from one to two guineas j in one instance three guineiii was obtained. Old rams sold as low as 61. Fire men belonging to the steamer St. Hilda, named Carroll, Brown, Ooldler, Olsen, and Jensen were arrestsd at New Plymouth on Monday for brutally assulting James Lake at tbe Motorua Hotel on Monday night. Lake is in a precarious condition in the hocpital. Mr Bishop, B.M. at Mongonui, telegraphed to the Native Minister on Monday that after a great deal of trouble he had induced tbe natives to consent to a post mortem examination being made on the body ol Hakuene, one of the victims of tbe recent poisoning case at Auckland. The natives at first refused to allow the examination to |be made, but ultimatiy agreed to it taking place at the grave. The atomaoh and other parts of the body war# forwarded to Auckland for analysis.
