GERALDINE SCHOOL COMMITTEE.
The monthly meeting of this Committee was held in the schoolroom on Wednesday evening. Present—Messrs N, Dunlop (Chairman), J. Cunningham, O. E. Sherratt, W, Shiers, and G. Ward. MINUTES. The minutes ot the previous meeting were read and confirmed. CORRESPONDENCE. From Mr Davies, Secretary of the S.C. Caledonian Society, informing the Committee that the Society were offering an annual scholarship of the value of £l2, enclosing the conditions of the same, and stating tha* the Society would feel obliged if the Committee would induce as many as possible to compete.—lt was decided to acknowledge the letter with thanks and to communicate with the Head Master re inducing scholars to compete. From the S.C. Board of Education acknowledging the receipt of the Committee’s letter, and also those of the teachers, Messrs A. Erskine and J. P. Kalaugher, with regard to the Inspector’s report on their classes at the last examination. The letter stated that in the absence of any direct recommendation from the Committee, the Board would not, at present, interfere with those teachers. COMPULSORY ATTENDANCE^ Mr Cunningham withdrew the notice of motion standing in his name that the compulsory clauses of the Act he en-. forced. interview. The Head Master interviewed the Committee at their request with regard to several matters connected with the school, PRIZE PUND. After some little conversation on the prize fund it was decided to hold the concert in aid of the prize fund early in May. The arrangements for the same wore left in the hands of the Head Master. RESIGNATION. Mr R. S. Cook tendered his resignation as a member of the Committee owing to his leaving the district. The resignation was accepted with regret. HOLIDAYS, Jt was decided to give one week’s Loldiday at Easter, the length of the other holiday to be left with the new Committee. visitor's report, etc. Mr Sherratt, on behalf of the visitors for the month, reported having visited the school and found everything working satisfactorily, It was decided that Messrs Shiers and Dunlop be appointed visitors for the month, and that they see to the repairs to the verandah.
I The Cbaii mao mentioned what had had been dons with regard to the sohoo pump which, pas considered satisfactory, and the sum of £2 13a was passed for cht work, HEAD MASTER’S REPORT. The Head Master’s report for tin month was received. It chiefly drew th< Committee’s attention to several small repairs that were needed to the school buildings. The Head Master’s suggestion with regard to supplying the children with pens, ink, pencils, etc., was adopted, MISCELLANEOUS. It was decided to allow the Orari Bridge School Committee the use of some of the school forms on the occasion of their concert. This being all the business the Committee ! adjourned till the night previous to the annual meeting of householders,
