A NOVEL REFORM SYSTEM.

The more respectable reiidents of Harrison and Orawfoid counties in the State of Indiana hare been much annoyed by certain shiftless and immoral neighbours, whose conduct, though very improper, iraa not inch as to make them amenable to legal puniihment. The people therefore, organised themselves into “hickory club*," and resolved to severely ehastiae their immoral neighbours, with a view to reforming them. Among the first obnoxious persons who fell victims to their wrath, were a man and a woman who had been cohabiting illicitly, much to the scandal ot their own proper townspeople. The frail couple were taken front their bouse to the suburbs of the town,! where they were severely flogged with hickory switches and admonished to depart and sin no more, The regulators of public morals next turned their attention to a trifling, dissipated fellow who had been in the habit of squandering his money for liquor, to the utter disregard of his half-starved family. After having been warned to go to work, and having failed to do, he was taken from his bed and scourged with switches, and left in a state of unconsciousness. He Is now at home, and. still suffering from the effect of his punishment, although not dangerously injured. Several other good-for-nothing fellows have been limilafly punished. This method of correction is said to work like a charm, as all to whom it has been applied have thoroughly reformed, and are now industrious and moral members of the community.
