RESURRECTION OF BRIGHAM YOUNG.
In 1877, Brigham Young, “ the muchmarried man ” and leader of the Mormon sect of Utah, died, and was buried at Salt Lake City. The tomb, or mausoleum, in which his remains were deposited was built of stone, and in such a manner th.it the insertion of the last stone rendered it impossible to be opened from the outside. The Mormon leaders have assured their ignorant dupes that the defunct Brigham would some day break the cerements of the tomb, and appear again among his faithful folio vers in bodily form. It was recently announced that he had appeared before the leaders of the church, and that he would soon reveal himself to the rank aud fils, and again become their spiritual and temporal chief. It is not difficult to divine the ob]ect of the Mormon bishops in seeking to perpetrate this fraud upon the less intelligent members of their organisation, The evident determination of Congress to destroy Mormonism, by severely punishing all who practice it in violation of law, has rendered it necessary for the leaders of the Mormon church to still further enthuse their already blind and fanatical followers, and thus cause them to cling tenaciously to their faith, notwithstanding the efforts of the Government to destroy it. ►lt is feared that this counterfeit resurrection will be credited by the Mormons, as no fraud, however palpable it may be to others, is too monstrous to be believed by these ignorant and credulous fanatics, who are completely the dupes of their leaders. The consequence, if this fiction should be generally believed among the Mormons, may be very serious indeed to the Gentiles of Utdi, for if they believe that Brigham Young has miraculously returned from the grave to protect his faithful followers they will grow bold and confident, and may imagine that the power that enabled him to do so would also give them strength to destroy the Gentiles and the Government which has so long interfered with the practice of their fanatical faith.
