J, Brarae, the lecturer for the Auckland Industrial Association, has commenced operations, and makes a tour of the whole of the country districts in the interests of the Association. The Mayor of Auckland is moving for the establishment of a Municipal Association for the whole of the colony, whoso province should 1 be to watch over and protect the interests, rights, and privileges of Municipal Corporations, and to promote the efficient carrying out of Municipal Government throughout'the colony. Henry Ward escaped from the Auckland lock-up by climbing the spouting, but was recaptured at North Shore. This is the third man who has escaped by the same method. A man named Henry Saunders was on Tuesday at Wellington sentenced to fourteen days’ hard labor for playing with dice in a railway carriage. The session of ttm- Supreme Court at Hokitika, before' Chi°f Justice Prendergast, was very light. Henry Bonner was charged with forgery, and Michael Brennan with breaking into premises and robbery. Both pleaded guilty, and were sentenced each to two years’ imprisonment with hard labor. In the civil case Dixon v. Moss, an appeal arising out of an action for the recovery of calls in the Golden Fleece Goldmining Company, the decision of the Court below was sustained. The appeal of the lukerraan Quartz Mining Company against Hungerford was struck out, owing to formalities not being complied with. This concluded the business, .Professor Black lectured at Hokitika on Monday night to - a large audience, and expressed great satisfaction at the state of efficiency of the several Schools of Mines on the Coast as being far beyond his expectations. He assayed three samplss from Rangitoto. The first (ore) yielded 6nz 7dwts gold, lOoz 13dwt silver, to the too ; the second lOoz bullion ; the • bird (quartz) 330 z gold. He said the Rangitoto ore was really gold, not silver ore, and anticipated a large and profitable yie'd- from the lodes and reefs when worked. He also exp r essed the opinion that the beach sand, when worked on a large scale, would be very profitable.
'I he rudder of the boat which went amissing three weeks ago at Southland, with four men, has been found on the beach, about seventeen miles from where the boat was last seen.
The Independent Order of Oddfellows, American Constitution, opened its session at New Plymouth on Wednesday, under Grand Master Williams, and received rhe greetings of the kindred Friendly Societies.

The seamen of the Nelson, who received £SO from the Underwriter’s Association for their Services rendered at the recent fire at Wellington, have devoted the money towards the erection of a monument to the memory of their shipmates who have died while serving on this station. The monument is to be placed in thecemeteiy where they are buried.
The Star Boating Chib, Wellington, won their annual two mile race with the Union Club of Christchurch by six lengths. Time— 13f minutes. The dull times has forced the Yoang Men’s Christian Association at Dunedin to retrench in the matter of salaries, and the general secretary (the Rev. J, White) has sent-, in hi» resignation, which has been received with regret.

Taranaki won the interprovincial bowling match, with Auckland on Tuesday by 9 points. Tho scores were :—Auckland, 79 Taranaki, 88. At the Keaident Magistrate's Court, Eaugiora, on Tuesday last, a lad named Jjimcan Mclntosh, 16, was committed for trial for assaulting a little girl named McMi-lan 0 years of age. A man named John Willcock was arrcst-d at Christchurch on Tuesday night charged with the forgery and uttering of » cheque on the Bank of New Zealand tor £l4.
