MILFORD SCHOOL COMMITTEE.
The monthly meeting of the Milford School Committee was held on March Bth. Present—Messrs J. Brown (Chairman), T. White, John Maze, and J. B. Wareing. MINUTES. The minutes of the last meeting were read and confirmed. master's report. The Master’s report for the month was road. The number on the roll was 50, and the average atiendanoe 34, which was considered very unsatisfactory. The Master asked the Comniiitee to bring the compulsory clauses into force, so as to ensure a better attendance, and also re* quested that some repairs might be made to the house and schoolroom; the bed* rope also needed repairing. The Chairman was authorised to get the repairs done as soon as possible. CORRESPONDENCE. Correspondence was read From the Board of Education, dated 16:h Feb., informing the Committee that the Inspector would conduct the annual examination on Feb. 21st. From the same, advising the Committee of the return of books and vouchers, and stating that they had been audited and found cjrrect.
From the pupil teacher, Miss Norah Brogdeo, resigning her position at the end of March.—. The Committee expressed themselves very sorry to lose Miss Brogden’s services as the children were making very good progress under her, and it will also be difficult to get a pupil teacher residing in the district to fill the vacancy. —The Chairman was authorised to notify the Board of Education of Miss Brogdnn’s resignation, and also to see if she would reconsider her decision. inspector’s report.
The following report was read Examination report on Milford Public School, examined 21st February, 1887; head teacher, F. A. Joseph. Summary of Presentation and Pass Results—Standard V.: Presented 1, failed 1. Standard IV.; Presented 3, absent 1, passed 2. Standard III.: Presented 14, absent 3, failed 7, paused 4. Standard If. ; Presented 9, absent 1, failed I, passed 7. Standard I. : Presented 13, absent 2, failed 6, passed 5, Preparing for Standard I.: 14. Total: Presented 54, absent 7, failed 15, passed 18, Percentage of passes 33, precentage of failures 45. This school has not passed a satisfactory examination. This may be attributed in part at least to the change of teachers, and the occurrence of the harvest holidays just prior to the examination. The manners of the children are fairly satisfactory, and good order is maintained. jas. Gibson Gow, M.A., Inspector. The meeting then adjourned.
