GERALDINE SCHOOL COMMITTEE.
An adjourned meeting of this Com* rnittee was held in the schoolroom on Friday. Present—Messrs N. Dunlop (Chairman), R. S. Cook, W. Shierfl, and G. Ward. MINUTES. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed. CORRESPONDENCE. The following correspondence was received and read: — From Mr J. Cunningham, apologising for non-attendance through illness, find giving- notice that at the next meeting he will move that the compulsory clauses of the Act be enforced, From the Rev. W. Gr. Thomasj Temuka, stating that he intended holding services in Geruldine shortly, and asking for the use of the school for holding public worship.—lt was decided that seeing there were so many buildings available the Committee could not see their way clear to grant tbe request. From tbe B.C. Board of Education, stating that the sum of £l2 18s had been forwarded for incidantals for the present quarter. From the Secretary S.C. Board of Education, stating that he had audited the books and vouchers of the Committse and found them correct. From the same, forwarding the names of persons nominated for membership on the Board, and asking the Committee to return the names of not more than three persons.—lt was decided to return the names of the retiring members, via:—W. B. Howell, R. A. Barker, and Rev. T, Jasper-Smythe. m . From the same, enclosing cheque for £3 12s for Mr Hughes'boiler. From the same, noafyiag the Com- •» mittee *hat the Board had accepted Mr Jiimes Aitkin and Miss Pearson as Head Master and Mistress of tbe school. From the same, stating that Miss Pearson would be at her duties as soon as possible. An explanation was received from Mr J. P. Kalaugher, Standard 111., and Mr A. Er&kine, Standard IV., re the failure of these standards at the last examination. It waß decided that Mr A. Erskine's explanation be accepted as satisfactory and the Comnittee bear him out, and that Mr J. P. Kalaugher's letter be accepted and forwarded to the Board. visitor's rejort, etc. The visitors reported for the month that they had visited the school and found everything satisfactory. Messrs J. Cunningham and the Chairman stated that they had also visited the school and found the Head Mistress doing good work. Messrs Slierratt and Cook were appointed visitors for the ensuing month. It was decided that the repairs to the flior be left in the hands of the visitors, and that tbey also see that the well is completed.
ACCOUNTS. Acconnts amounting to £2 6j were passed for payment,, ACTING HEAD MASTER'S BEPOBT. . The Head Master's report for the month was laid on the table. It showed the attendance for the four weeks ending February 18, to be as follows :—Boys, 93.59 ; girls, 90.78 ; total, 184.37. Number on roll, 248 ; highest attendance, 204. TOTE OF THANKS. It was decided that a hearty vote of thanks be passed to Mr Hislop for the able manner in which he curried out his duties during the time he acted as as Head Master of the school. This being all the business the meeting adjourned.
