AUCTIONEERS’ REPORT.

TIMARU. Mr E. R. Guinness (for the New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company Limited) reports for the week ended Saturday, Feb, 15th, 1887, as follows ; Cattle—Fat are in plentiful supply, quotations from 17s to 18a for prime, and 16s to 16a per 100 bs for medium. At the Washdyke we have sold several lines at the above quotations. Stores ; Transactions in this class of stock are iust now nominal. We have enquiries for 3 and 4-year-old bullocks for winter feeding, but few are offering. Sheep—The market is well supplied, and no improvement in prices has taken place, or likely to for some time to come; in fact, values have receded, and prime mutton cannot be quoted at more than Ijd to l|d per lh. Stores; We note a better demand for every description, especially 2 and 4-tooth half and threequarterbreds, but there is no improvement of prices worthy of note. Private Sale of Sheep—During the last month we have found buyers for 21,610, of various sorts as follows ;—3OOO 4,6, and 8-tooth merino" wethers ; 6000 fullmouthed do do ; 1500 2-tooth do do ; 6100 full-mouthed merino owes ; 3500 2 and 4-tooth do do; 7<JO fuh-mnuih half bred owes ; 800 2-tooth hnlfbred ewes and weihojs. All the aff tc lots have been quitted at very prices to the owners. Sheepskins—Privately and by auction we have disposed of about 6000 at the following prices : —Merino skins in hales, 51 to 6£d per lb ; factory pelts, Is 3d to la 61 ; lamb skins, 2s H to 2* 6d; butchers’ best pelts, Is 4d to Is 7d ; second quality, 101 to Is 3d ; lambskins, Is to Is 9d ; country lots according to quality. Hides—Hides are in good demand, quotations as follows6olb and over, 41 ; 501 b to 60. b, 3jd to 3|i ; light and inferior, 2£d to 3d ; cut and slippy, 2d per lb. Ai the above prices we have disposed of a largo number, which meet with a ready sale. Fat—The market remains'steadyjj; all on hand has been quitted at 8s 6d to 10s per cwt. Land—They report having sold on account of the Seadown Estate, privately, to Mr Wooffmden, the following section : No. 41,100 acres, at a very satisfactory price. AUSTRALIAN MARKETS. Sydney, Feb. 19. There is no New Zealand wheat in the market. Oats are selling at 2s to 2s 6d per bushel ; maize, per 56 : bs, 4s to 4s 6d, Sugar Company’s No. 1 pieces, £25. Adelaide, Feb. 19. TV heat is selling at 3s 9d to ?s 101 ; at outporta |from 3s 7d to 3s Bd, Flour, £9 to £9 5s per ton ; superior brands realising from £9 10s to £lO. Charters for United Kingdom are being accepted at £1 to ±,l 2s per ton, the market being weak. ENGLISH MARKETS. London, Feb. 19. The wheat market is steadier. Quotations for cargoes on the spot are unchanged. Floating cargoes and forward shipments show a slight advance. Supplies are not reduced. For Australian February and March shipments 36s 6d is asked, The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company (Limited) have received the following cablegram from London, dated 17th Feb,:— Wool—The sales closed firmly, The following advances in prices have taken place since the close of last sales, viz, : greasy and scoured merinos, -|d to Id pet lb ; clothing and combing washed merino, id per lb ; fine greasy, fine washed, and fine scoured crossbred, Id per lb ; coarse greasy, coarse washed, and coarsed scoured crossbred, id to Id per lb ; merino lambs, Id to per lb ; crossbred lambs, Id per lb. The total quantity sold during the past sales is 225,000 bales, and 22,000 bales have been held over for future disposal ; 125,000 have been taken for the Continent, and 5000 for America!
