MOUNT PEEL ROAD BOARD.
The monthly meeting of ihe Board vas held in the Road Board Office, Peel Forest, on Friday, the 18th inst. Pre*ent—The Hon, J. B. A. Acland (Chairman), Messrs Mackay, Tripp, and Dennistoun. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed. The Clerk reported chat at the election of a representative of the district on the Tiraaru Harbor Board, Mr John Talbot had been duly elected. A letter was read from Mr Talbot, tendering his thanks to the ratepayers of the district for again returning him as their representative, and giving at some length his views upon the proposed modification of tho Harbor works. The Clerk to acknowledge the receipt of the letter with thanks, and state that the Board fully agree with the proposed modified plan, especially as it gives a fair hope of a use--ful harbor being finished within a specified lime and for a specified amount. A letter was read from the Commissioner, of Crown Lands, forwarding a plan of the Village Settlement of Rangitata Bridge, for the purpose of having the proposed improvement to the road marked thereon.-The Clerk stated that the position of the proposed works had been marked on the p an, and it returned to tho Land Office. From Mr D. Macdonald, requesting his name to be substituted on the roll for property on the Opnha river, Raincliff, instead of his father's.—The Clerk to reply informing him that his father’s consent to the alteration would luve to he obtained. From the Commissioner of Property Tax, forwarding forma of statement for demand for rates on Crown Lands. From Mr 0. R. Shaw, forwarding plan of piece of land purchased out of section No, 3208, in Pee! Forest.—The Clerk was instructed to get the necessary conveyance made out. Resolved— “ That the Overseer report to the Bo rd at its next meeting any ratepayers that have neglected to clear the roads of gorse, they having hud notice to do tho same;” “lhat tenders be called for ploughing a half-chain width round all the plantation reserves j” “ That in all cases whore the Board give leave to occupiers to erect gates across roads it shall be subject to the following coudD tions; that barbed wire shall not be fixed along the lop of any such gate unless in such a manner as to leave the gate Lee from such barbed wire for a space of 18 iqches from the fastening of the gate, and that the above regula'ion shall apply to all gates already erected by leave of the Board—that it be one of the conditions under which the Board will grant permission to erect gates across any public road under its control; that such gate be well hung and handy to open end shut; that the Clerk write to the Charitable Aid Board in reference to the man Seale, who was recently discharged from the Timaru Hospital.” Mr Dennistoun brought under the notice of the Board the state of the main road, as the traffic had left the road and formed a track through his private property ; he would wish steps taken to compel the traffic to keep to the road,-r-The Overseer was directed to attend to the matter. After passing accounts to the amount of £129 18s the Board adjourned.
