I At the on Wednesday, moderate numbers of all stock' 1 Were' yarded. The /attendance of buyers and others was, h nr'dly an' average one. Fat Cattle—A fairly/good,entry of principally medium weight cattle, just.suitable for the present weather./ The demand seemed a shade better than, of late and yaides, perhaps’ slightly .improved. Steers sold at from £4' os to £6158, heifers' from £4 to £6 10s, being at the rate! of from 16s to 17* 6d per IOOIbs. ' Fat Sheep—A moderate entry and quality varied. The demand was again entirely local and’ buyers bad it' all their v wayv V( PHipe crossbred wethers sold at from 6s 9i to 8s 6d ; crossbred e wes, 4s to 6j ; lines of two and four-tooth three-quarter fat wethers at 4s 6d and 6s ; merino wethers;, at from 3s 9d to 6s, being at the rate of from |d to Ijd per lb, as per quality. Store: Sheep—Only a few lines were yarded, most lots finding purchasers at prices in sympathy with those ruling in the fat sheep markets. It is not now the Want of feed that keeps this class of sheep so low in value, but the want of an outlet for the sheep when fattened. Lines of two-tooth wethera fetched 3s to 3s 6d per head; four-tooths, 4s and 4s 3d. Fat Lambs—A . pretty good entry, demand not very , brisk. Values . ranged from 3s to 7s, according to quality; Pigs—A moderate entry,.making the best demand of the day, Pnrkers. from 15s to 235, stores, 6a to 135.-, Store.Cattle—A fairly good entry,.demand.not at all,active. A good many odd lots of cattle were sold at life values; but for three or four lines of' well-grown steers vendors: and buyers, could not agree as to values, and they remained unsold. In the dairy stock market good cows fetched from £5 to £6 ! l6s. DUNEDIN PRODUCE MARKETS. The following is the report for' the week ending Wednesday Wheat—A few samples of the new crop are now offering, but business done so far has bean very slight,- miller* preferring to wait for a little in the view of prices coming lower. Consignments of the old grain are still coming forward, and are now moving off slowly at late quotations. Inferior and fowl wheat is very plentiful and prices are decidedly lower. Quotations are : Prime, 4a 4d to 4s 6d ; medium to good{ 4s to'4s 3d ; inferior and fowl wheat, 3s t0.35.4d; Oats—The market is now almost bare of good,feed, and milling. A-steady demand ,6*181.8, for bright samples for shipment, which are now very scarce. Best feed and miiiingare worth Isß,d to Is Bjd ; good;feed, ls ,7d to .Is,7Jd j, medium, Is 6d to la,(Bid ; off color and musty, Is Id to Is od. Barley —The market is quiet for all descriptions. Feed ia inquired for in small lots at 2s 3d to 2s 6d. Chaff—Oaten sheaf (old crop), £3 5s to £3 10s ; medium, £3. Potatoes—Derwents and kidneys, £3s* to£3loi. Butter—The market continues depressed. Keg butter is nominally worh to..?d. Fresh is wanted at 8d for best mixed lots. Eggs—ls 2d per doz. Cheese is in oyer supply at 4§d. Sheepskins On Monday butchers’ green skins brought lOd to Is 6d ; lambskins, Is fid to' 2-t 3d ; dry crossbred skins, Is 3d to 4a lid ; do merino, Is 2d to 4s 7d ; pelts, Id to 9d. Hides—No change in values to note. Cut, slippy, and bulls’, to 21; light, 2£d to weights in good condition, 3Jd to 4d per lb. 1 Tallow—Good to prime mutton, 17« to 18s; inferior to medium, 12a to 16s; mutton, lls to 12a ; infeiior'tb m'edium, 5s to 10s. DUNEDIN STOCK MARKETS. At the Burnside Yards on Wednesday the following business , was transacted Fat Cattle—246 head were yarded today at Burnside, one-half of which were light-weight cattle, and only 1 average quality, the balance being good to prime.
Prices fell to the, patent, of about 20s per . head. Best bullocks brought £7 IQs to £9; others, £4 ss, to. £7 5a ; best cows, £5 10s to £6 17s 6d ; others, £3 15s to £5 ss. - L. Maclean sold for, the, executors of the late Mr ,M. Studholme (Waimate Estate), 12 pripie bullqckf.from £7 12s, 6d - to £8 17s 6d. Donald Stronach,. sold on, account of the, proprietors, of the Seadow n Estate and others, bullocks at from £6 7a 6d to £7 10s. Wright, and Co. sold for the, N.Z. and A. Lind Co. (Pareora Estate), 6 bullosks at from £7 2ai 6d to £7 10s; for,Mr Andrew Grant (Temuka), 13 head steers and heifers (light weights) at from £4 2s 6d to £5 12s 6d. Donald Reid apd, Co. sold for Mr j Andrew Grant (Temuka), 6 heifers at £5 10a. [Fat Calves—Three, calves,so)d up to 20a each. Fat, Sheep—l9l4 came forward, the r greater portion of which, were crossbred ewes, ranging from medium to prime quality ; the balance comprised wethers, of which nearly all. jwefe prime. Prices advanced about la 6d per,head. Best crossbred wethers brought from 10s 3d-to 12s 3d ; others,. 6s 9d to 9s 6d; beat crossbred, ewes, 8s to 10s 3d ; others, 5a to 7a 9d. L. Maclean sold for the executors of the late Mr M. Studholme (Waimate Estate), 152 crossbred ewes at 5a 9d. Fat Lambs—7l9 penned, several drafts of which wore really prime quality. Competition was brisk,, and prices realised show an advance on last week’s rates. All forward were sold at prices ranging from 4s 9d to 9s 6d. Pigs—Only.i 64 penned, nearly, all porkers and suckers, only, two pens, of bacon pigs being offered. Competition was active, and prices obtained were in advance,of late values. Suckers brought 8s 6d to its 9d ; porkers, 23s 6 d to 28s ; bacon pigs, 60s to 54s.—Messrs Donald Reid and) Co., sold for Mr H, Oldfield.
