THE NEW GUINEA MASSACRES.
Brisbane, Feb. 2. News of further massacres by the natives in New Guinea have been received by the steamer Victory, which has arrived at Thursday Island from 1 Port Moresby. It is stated that at Motu Motu the natives are very troublesome and unsettled. On the 16th January they killed in a most manner a man, woman, and a child, belonging to Morania, who were staying at Motu. The warriors then proceeded up the William River to Morania, and killed sixteen more men, women and jcjiildren. On the 10th Mr Edelfell and a mission teacher went, to Morania and learned that the Motuans, in ambush, bad killed several Moraniana going to and returning from work. There previously bad been friendship between these tribes and no reason i was given,for the massacre, Tbe Motuana have been holding a great feast since, aod now state: their intention to massacre the people and burn tbe villages of Kerewa in the same way. There will probably be reprisals shortly. Great sickness and many deaths! have occurred among tbe natives iu Motu Motu, Morania, aod Kerewa.
