A long report, by the Overseer ■ oh the roads applied for 'by-Mr Hayburst to provide access to his new mill was also read. Re said the road - from Palmer’s road 1 towards the niill site, between sections Nos. 20377 and 2294, ran along the riverbed; and during flood would ’be covered with water. ,Of the road «bout ; 47 chains would be of use to Mr Hay hurst, andhe estimated the cost at £36 10s. It would bp a difficult road to keep io repair. The road leading from the KakahhToad 1 would require the present cutting to be repaired, and a ford to be made in the creek at the, bottom of ; the terfice.* The ford would be difficult to keep in order. Ho estimated (he first cost at £lO. The re-i pprt then referred to the road alluded to in the other report, and which - was approved of by the Board. The Overseer thought it would answer the purpose of the two roads applied for; there': was always a good ford, and it would be easy to maintain. ■ - - ■ , The new road suggested.by' the Overseer to take the place of those applied for \by Mr Hayhurst runs from the Kakahu road along the north side of Mr W. Young’s section No. 6595, where it joins Mr Rees Thomas’ property, thence, across the riverbed. The Overseer reported that he understood the ford was generally J good. 1 u ' ; * A long discussion ensued, at the end of which it was. proposed by Mr . Quinn, seconded by Mr G. Bissett, and carried—; t “ That in the matter of the; roads applied to be opened by-Mr Hayhurst, the recommendation of the Overseer to purchase a new line altogether; instead be approved'of, and the offer of Mr Young, toi sell the land required at £l6 per acre be accepted, the cost of fencing to be equally, divided between the Board, and’l Mr Young; also that the Qfaaiman be authorised to take the necessary steps for acquiring the proposed new road at once.” TENDERS. The Overseer reported that no tenders had been received for shingling Parke’s road, Milford. QORSB ON THE ROAD. . Mr Bissett said there was some talk of the gorse being allowed to grow bn certain roads, instancing a road near Badham’s, where it was half across the road. ■ The Overseer said he had been unable to find out who the owner of the adjoining land was. He had received a-letter, from Messrs Perry and Perry re the rates, but he could not find out from .it the owner’s name. He had given Mr W. , Fitzgerald, th«s former; owner, notice to clear the gorse 12 months ago, but he had replied that he had no interest in the section. The subject then dropped. UNPAID RATES. The subject of unpaid rates due to the Orari River Board cropped up, and the Clerk was instructed to get them in as soon as possible. The meeting then terminated.
