Mr Gladstone was present at a great dinner given by Welsh members of the House of Commons, at which he discussed a proposal for the formation of a Welsh party. Messrs Samuel Allsopp and Sons, pale ale brewers, intend to convert their business into a Company, with a capital of £3,000,000. Her Majesty the Queen has approved of the appointment of Edward Waldemar Johanasina as Danish Consul at Auckland, and of Doctor Kortum as German Vice-Consul at Cooktown. CONBTANTINNPLB, DSC. 2. Sir Drummond Wolffe, British Special Commissioner for Turkey and Egypt, has arrived in this city. Ottawa, Jan. 26. Melbourne, Jan. 27. The congregation of Scots Church bpve appointed a Commission, subject to the approval ot the Presbytery, to obtain a permanent minister, thereby virtually solving the dispute which has existed for some time. Jan, 28. A conference took place to-day between Mr. A. Gillies, SirS. Griffiths, Premier of Queensland, and Mr John Douglas, High Commissioner of New Guinea. The subjects under discussion were the constitution, admistration, and expenses of New Guinea, The Victorian Premier states that the colonies are unanimous in their views regarding New Guinea, and expressed a hope that the Imperial; conference would satisfactorily and permanently settle the affairs of that island. A fund for the relief of sufferers by the recent floods in Brisbane has been Started. It is estimated that 60 persons were drowned in the neighborhood of Brisbane during the floods in that city. Jan. 29. Arrived—Terawera. At a; meeting of the Melbourne Cricket .Club this, afternoon it was decided that English cricketers be brought to Australia next season under auspices of the Melbourne Cricket Club, the team to consist- of seven amateurs and faur professionals. Hobart, Jan. 28. Arrived—Terawera, from the Bluff. Adelaide, Jan. 28. .... The revenue returns,published to-day show the South Australian revenue to bs £334,000 below that of the previous year. The expenses of the Government show a reduction of £220,000 compared with the preceding year. The deficiency in the Estimates at the end of December amounts to over a million. Sydney, Jan. 30. In addressing his constituents at St, Leonards last night, Sir Henry Parkes met with a most enthusiastic reception.
