CHRISTCHURCH STOCK MARKETS.
At the Addington yards on Wednesday, large entries of fat stock to hand, with medium entries of stores; attendance above the average ; business, however, in most cases was slow, and, with the exception of fat sheep, values showed no signs of recovery. 'Fat Cattle—A good number offered, principally of superior quality and medium weights, just suitable for the present tropical weather, bat requirements were small, and sales were made at very low values. Steers sold at from £3 15s to £7, and heifers from £4 17s 6d to £5 15s, being an average price of about 17a per lOObs. Fat Sheep— There was a full market of all qualities, good quality predominating. The demand showed a slight improvement over last market, though the market was very irregular; taken all through better business can be reported. Crossbred wethers sold at from 6a to 9s ; crossbred ewes, from 4s to 6s 9d ,* ineiino wethers, from 4s 8d to 5s 3<i,. A small draft of pure bred Southdown two-tooth ewes fetched 9s 9J per head ; for prime qnality a shade over Jsd per lb, down to Id for medium. ; Fat Lambs—A large entry, some prime lots being on offer, fetching up to 7s 9d per head,imedinm and inferior 8s 6d to 6s. Store Sheep—A few lines only on offer. At auction very litt'e business was done; a line of two and four-tooth owes sold at 3s 6d. Privately ,we were informed of a sale of two-tooths at 3t 6d, <»nd ditto at 4s 31. Store Hattie--A small entry and dull inquiry:; values remain unaltered. Pigs—Very few yarded,; a better demand shown at enhanced values. Porkers sold at from 14s to ,2IH: per head. < • • DUNEDIN PRODUCE MARKETS. ; The following is the report for the., week ending Tuesday r— - Wheat—The demand at present is very limited, millers only buying emall parcels for immediate requirements. Fowl’s feed is plentiful and prices lower, 3s to 3s 9d ; medium, 4s to 4s 7d ; prime milling, 4s lOd. Oats—There is scareJy anything doing in this grain at present, and no improvement in values can bo looked for now chat the new crop is so near at hand. Milling, Is 8.1 to Is 9i; good feed, Is 7d ; inferior, Is 31 to Is sd. Barley—Thera is no business passing in this grain at present ; the quotations are nominally 2s 6d to 3s. Chaff—Best oaten sheaf, £3 17« 6d to £4; medium, £3 10* to £3 15s; straw chaff, £2 10s. Potatoes—Kidneys, £6 ; new Derwents, £5 ; supplies not abundant. Butter—There is no business doing in keg batter, which is nominally worth 6|d to 7d ; fresh, 5d to 6d for mixed lots. Eggs—9d per dozen. Cheese—6d per lb for best new season’*. Sheepsms—At the sales on Monday fair parcels were offered. Prices were slightly easier. Country crossbreds sold up to 2s 9d; merinos to 2s 9d; green skins; 91 to Is 3d; lambskins, Is 3d to Is 7d. Hides —The demand continues fair. Quotations; Inferior, 2d ; light, 2d to 2£d ; medium, 81; heavy, 3£ I to 3£d. Tallow—There is no improvement in the demand. Quotations; Inferior, 12s to 15s ; medium, 17s 6d ; prime, 19i to 20a; rough fat, 11s to 12-’.
